Re: Is this a turning point in your life?

We don't know who will pass yet. So that is a possible turning point for anyone.

I am introverted and single. My social life hasn't change too much during this crisis. I guess so far it's only small stuff like being more aware of just how many things people touch.

Most economic boosting way to use stimulus $

As most of you know they are trying to get a bill passed that would give Americans $1200 per adult and $500 per child. Although providing money to the system through holding stock may help society long term I don't think it would give the short term boost that the money is intended for. What should ...

Here is the paper by Dr. Didier Raoult (one of the docs pushing for hydroxychloroquine). I haven't finished reading it yet, but I thought I'd show it to the old think tank.

Ray Dalio weighs in on coronavirus and It's economic impact. Reactions to the virus (e.g., “social distancing”) will probably cause a big short-term economic decline followed by a rebound, which probably will not leave a big sustained economic impact. The fact of the matter is that history has shown...

Re: COVID-19

Has there been anything comparable to this since 1918 ? There has been AIDS. It's a global pandemic that has killed millions and like the 1918 flu it primarily affects people in the prime of life ( unlike coronavirus). Though the social impact may be different. Because of the way it spreads people ...

The impression of what you can make doing this is likely exaggerated. You ran your numbers right after a huge upswing in volatility. So the premium represents more potential movement than normal. Another issue with covered calls is asymmetric risk. If the stock goes down you can lose far more than y...

If you're under 50, what specifically is it that you're afraid of though?
You can spread it before you even know you have it. So even if you will be alright doesn't mean you won't give it to someone who could die. So I wouldn't just throw caution to the wind.

Re: Where to draw the line between prepper gear, hobby gear, and minimalism?

I think for you the real issue is that you want to move and you will then have to sell/donate/bring with you any stuff. Though I just don't see these things as bad. Now if you bought that pipboy 2000 and a spot in the nearest vault I'd be worried.
