I think it'd be useful to always carry around a little journal & writing utensil wherever I go. The intention would be writing down useful ideas I learn from anyone I talk to, so that I can better remember them and think about them.
I wonder how it'd work logistically, since I'd want the journal to be super accessible. Maybe placing a utility belt on myself and sticking the notebook in there, or hanging it around my neck, or in a pocket?

Do ya'll journal in any way? How have you found it?

I've done this at times. You can find the right size and type of. Notebook to fit into the back pocket of jeans. I don't do it anymore because I always carry a phone. I use the Notes app to record info that I later transfer somewhere else. Or I email myself.
I keep a set of notebooks at home:
- one "actions" book with both short term and long term actions lists
- one "journal" book - that I mainly write notes from books i read.
- other "scratch paper" type notebooks

Yeah, I do all that electronically for the most part. I put lots of emails in my draft folder with no addresses that are then cut/paste to an electronic journal later.
It makes me feel like General Petraeus and his paramour.
I also use it as a convenient place to compose longer forum posts.

I carry a folded up index card in my wallet, but it's a combination to-do list and grocery list. I don't see why a couple of these couldn't serve for a notebook of sorts.
I also always carry a pen in my pants pocket.

@Dragline - I do the same thing except I press send. This way NSA gets a backup copy
@Zalo - You'd probably want some kind of special forces quick draw arrangement. Like mid-thigh? Or upside down on your left chest (if you're right handed). Look into MOLLE or ALICE gear arrangements. Of course I'm being facetious here, but I can't help myself
Overall, though, I've found such note-taking exercises to be pretty useless---whatever notes I jot down has close to zero value later on because I didn't write down enough details. Either that or it's so simple that I'd remember it anyway. Basically, a few notes won't allow me to reconstruct complex stuff later on. And if it's simple stuff ... it probably wasn't that worthwhile.

I carry a tiny notebook (5*7 Mead $1.98 at walmart) with me in my backpack in an easily accessible pocket, with the pen tucked into the spiral. I've also constructed a plastic sheath for the front cover that lets me put something inspirational on the outside and my most frequently needed finance info on the inside. This holds my todo and shopping lists, presently pertinent paper in the front pocket, basically everything I want to access at a moment's notice, and allows me to jot down whatever seems of interest. Granted half the time it turns out to be uninteresting on second inspection, but the older you get, the more you need a cyber (or paper) memory. If you're anti backpack, I think they make a version of this notebook that fits in a pocket, 4*6. ETA: most of this could definitely be done on a phone but I like a place to keep actual paper given by others ... and I'm retarded about my phone.
