ERE Gambler
Is anyone else a semi-pro gambler like me? I consider pro status to be winning consistently in tournaments, or consistently making $500-$800 a day (a starting doctor salary) at a casino or online.
This is a retirement job for me, as it is fun and leisurely, as well as location independent and extreme.

Craps, Blackjack, and Poker are skill games (craps more on betting skill and keeping track of odds...which sometimes is not a good thing).
Roulette is pure luck, but hedged luck. Maybe roulette can be like stock pick spreads. You can get paid well betting $5 on 20 numbers, since hitting 1 number is 35:1.

Wait a minute now...what's the number of professional roulette players?
I mean, I can understand Pro Poker players, but roulette? Really? If you could consistently win money with roulette, in any strategy, they wouldn't have the game in the casinos.
Of course, you could work for months and take $5000 and bet it at a casino; maybe you get lucky and gain more...or you could just end up dumping it down the drain. The temptation is too much to "keep going...more money...more money..." and then eventually you'll leave with nothing.
However, there are some really good forums for Pro Poker players: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/

All casino games have a negative expectancy, no? Roulette, designed by Pascal, has a casino edge in the number of zeroes. Craps is the same, there is no bet you can take that has a positive expectancy, or will win consistently over time. The best bets are just below even money.
Many people seems to do well playing poker. Blackjack I've heard counting cards is possible but I don't know enough about it.

"All casino games have a negative expectancy, no?"
Not quite. If you know your basic strategy and can memorize a good counting system in blackjack - and it helps if the casino in question has favorable rules - the odds can be anywhere from 0.5 to 5% in your favor. That doesn't mean professional BJ players win all the time - there are many ups and downs - but they consistently win over time.
The reason the game is still offered in casinos is because there are very, *very* few professional blackjack players. In general, casinos can afford to lose some money with them because they make a whole lot more from idiots who don't know anything about the game...

Tested a different BJ system yesterday on a spontaneous 1st time trip to Cache Creek. It worked, making me pretty happy (and a lil richer), further adding to this route.
Right now I have been "working" poker for about 3 hours, and have earned $100 after making up for yesterdays losses...
To address Craps - craps has a similar system to BJ for betting, and I concur with dice shooters affecting the game. That's why pro's wait a few rolls before amping up their bets on the different areas of play. Last nite, one guy was rolling for an hour, but, the Cali system is a little different than Vegas for dice (sadly)

Really? It surprises me that any of you believe you can sustain living off the same gambling games that support multi-billion dollar gambling industries. The statistics are a fact that over time you will loose money (unless you are rainman, and then they will escort you from the casino). You might be able to read everyone else at the table (are you willing to risk that against people who gamble with their entire well being?), but the house usually still takes a cut. My opinion is that you would have to BE the house to be semi pro:) If anyone is lucky/skilled enough to beat it, why waste your time on anything but the lottery?

Even if one consistently wins at gambling, it's a zero sum game. There's a winner and a loser.
I fix air conditioning. I see it as a win-win. I get money, the customer gets comfort.
Many despise the rich thinking they've taken from the poor. Quite the opposite, they've become rich by making others richer.

The statistics come from not treating it like a job.
When I was unemployed many years ago, and was playing daily, there were people at the casino who had doing it for years. YEARS! It's just something you put your time into and wait for the statistics to show up and give away the money.
Also, yes, the house always wins at the end because they always take a cut of everything.

Craps I am still trying to get it all down. Not an expert...it all depends on the shooter and the point. Most systems I've read stay on the field and away from the hard bets. In practice, it works.
Expanding onto the point numbers can pay very well if the shooter is rolling them. The key is the odds for the point.
For all systems, not breaking the rules and staying consistent are key. That couldn't be stressed enough.
Nothing works online.
Mainly, your "bankroll" and mindset are the biggest shutdowns. You can't sit and play blackjack on a $10 table with less than 1k to back you up - you won't survive the losses. This point, over all others, is why vegas (or any casino) wins - people play for "fun". The casino doesn't have to do anything to win.
I should also I guess mention Baccarat is a stellar game as well.
