Doubled my position in SDRL at 22.50, bringing my total cost/share to 25. It's a little heavily weighted in my portffolio at ~ 20%, but my portfolio is still pretty young and I'm OK being risky with a few hold forever positions.

I also added PSEC at 9.20, I'm a fan of the monthly payers.

Took some profits from my previous list. Going heavy into metals today (bars/coins and stocks like AG, SLV, GLD, etc.).

@jp - did seeing 5-year lows trigger the buy?

Sort of. I use some admittedly odd metrics. It's a combination of having waited a while to add to my prep stash, and a trade play based on (what I think is) an overreaction in silver in particular. I held some money back because I think gold might test one more new low.

I have been planning to purchase some bars/coins, and this low seems like a great opportunity. Do you have a recommended source, or do you buy locally?

I use different suppliers. One is local, the rest are from around the country. I think the best place to get current recommendations is from the PP folks here or on CraigR's PP forum.

How does everyone feel about the Switzerland Vote coming up at the end of the month. If it passes prices may jump.

Any guesses on SDRL's earnings tomorrow? I'm assuming a dividend cut, but a small one is baked in already. I'm sitting here trying to decide whether to buy more ahead of the earnings announcement.

Seadrill Limited is suspending dividend distributions and focusing on debt reduction and value creating opportunities due to significant deterioration in the broader markets
Interesting. I probably wouldn't sell here unless I needed the dividend. If you read the rest of the statement it looks like they have a plan moving forward. I might even buy if there's enough of a dip. I'm putting together a shopping list of other names that might dip today on SDRL's news. We'll have to see with the snow and the holiday. Sometimes the market is wonky on days like this.

14% drop looks like a pretty big dip! Norway's Shiller P/E is already looking reasonable at <13, though SDRL only makes up 5% of the ETF.

KLAC declared a $16.50 special cash dividend. It's a little startling to see a 20% drop in one stock in a day until you realize you'll soon be getting that money in cash!

I need the dividend, but not the volatility. :) I sold out a few weeks ago thankfully. I like Freidrickson, and I think long term (post 2015) they will probably be ok, and may lead consolidation in the industry buying up weaker players, but the macro environment looks really rough.

Other names that are going to be under pressure are RIG, trans ocean. I would probably throw on a straddle or just buy straight puts the day before they report earnings.

I had the same thoughts. I am very interested at getting in some time after this dividend suspension.

Little slow-witted today, but I realized that since I own KLAC, buying more shares of KLAC with the special dividend is the only sensible action (provided one believes KLAC continues to be a good company). Basically that increases my regular future dividends with no outlay of new cash.

That KLAC dividend is impressive. Sure beats the special div I got from WMC last year!

I took the bait and bought SDRL. I also bought TICC and TCAP this week. I moved more cash into my trading fund, so I expect to be buying more as opportunities present themselves. Full disclosure: my trading fund is now 25% of my kitty.

edit: forgot--I also bought CRK

Haha, yes, but I didn't wait long enough. I pulled the trigger @3pm, but should have waited closer to the bell.

check out KEG...it's near 2009 low. Big upside potential once oil turns around.
