I like the downturn in emerging markets and Apple.

Might wait a little longer to actually get into them, but I love negativity. The more "blood in the streets" the better.

I went long ERUS.

I have no interest in touch the "Frontier" markets like Argentina...

:D I do, but not Argentina. Probably Turkey and Indonesia at some point and definitely Nigeria at some point. I like the long-term prospects.

I bought a stake in GGN yesterday at $9.26 yesterday. I bought it as a long term, dividend yielding hold rather than "buying gold."

I would like to own more of both, but it wouldn't surprise me if they both dropped a little more, so I only nibbled. I'll probably add to my position as the year goes on. These are keepers, not traders.

Bought CLF.

I had decided to buy it, and then Cramer mentioned it on his show and I was afraid the price would pop. No pop, so I bought.

CLF looks interesting. The long-term chart is funny to see! Do you have a catalyst in mind for recovery?

@WAH--I'm uncomfortable getting into too much detail, but GS has a pattern that I watch where they downgrade stocks or sectors while they increase their position in same. They issued a report on iron ore in January lowering their target price even though they had been adding to their position. (see http://relationalstocks.com/instshow.ph ... =813119014 ) They did the same with mREITs during the summer and fall--negative reporting while increasing positions. (see AGNC http://relationalstocks.com/instshow.ph ... =813118446 )

YMMV. I always assume that GS has better intel than I do. I don't buy things based solely on GS's moves, but it helps convince me if I'm on the fence about something.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts jennypenny. It looks like there's also some pushing for a spin-off (I wonder if that's coming from GS' end).

I can see the press release now ...
"Cliffs Natural Resources has hired Goldman Sachs to explore strategic alternatives for its Bloom Lake Project including a possible sale."

edit: also added TSO

I'm a little late, but I did purchase a small cap Indonesian ETF (IDXJ) about 3 weeks ago, an emerging market ETF (DVYE), and doubled down on Apple when it hit $506. Damn mini-crash didn't last long enough.

Hi jennypenny,

would you still recommand SDRL ? It was beaten down pretty hard (35 $ intraday yesterday). The numbers look nice but I'm really wondering why the stock suffers so much.

Conf call announced on Feb 25th

@archi--SDRL is getting squeezed by shorts this week because many investors anticipate a dividend cut. As of today, my guess is that it's 50/50 whether they cut the dividend (which also means it's 50/50 whether the stock hits $30 or $40 first). 'Recommend' is probably not the word I'd use. I'm comfortable initiating a position right now, but it's a part of my high yield allocation, which is currently only 20% of my portfolio.

Watching TOO, TNK. Will probably buy WPZ today before earnings.

Considering reducing my position in WMC. I'm hoping for a whisper number on BV, but nothing so far.

edited to add: Basically, I think SDRL is fundamentally sound and a good bet, but that doesn't mean that shorts won't hammer it in the short term.

@jennypenny : Tks for you message. I'm not authorized to use the private msg feature of the forums yet (I joined only recently).

I wouldn't dare to do day trading based on TA, but most of the time I use TA to improve my timing when I'm interested in a stock. So I'm a "semi-believer" (or maybe just an unskilled chartist...)

For SDRL, looks like kind of support was found at 35.5 in that crazy downtrend. Big volumes yesterday, (maybe people waiting to buy at 35 ?) and bullish candlestick. We are below mobile averages (bullish) but in negative RSI territory (bearish).

I'm still undecided but really tempted to buy. I think I will open a small position and maybe buy more if the decline continues after the conf call.

Edited to add: http://seekingalpha.com/article/2030271 ... ource=cnbc

Anyone good in fundamental analysis that could look at the ratios and give an opinion ?
