any thots on ooma for phone service?
ooma
Good reviews, but I didn't want to outlay that much for original purchase... And there are taxes to it now of $5 a month in my area. And it is possible they could go under at some point.
I use GrooveIP + GoogleVoice on an Android phone. Simpler and actually free... Although on a slow wifi I've noticed some echo and delay problems.
I think there are some other threads on it somewhere.

I do not use my phone much. My math showed that it would take more than 3 years before the device cost + taxes worked out to be cheaper than a pre-paid T-mobile cell phone. I can also get texts on the cell phone and take it with me...
If I was a heavy talker, I think I would investigate a VOIP solution that uses either my computer or an Android/Iphone via wifi.
The Ooma is just doing VOIP anyway. I don't think their dedicated device is so special, but I am comfortable messing with computers and other technical devices.
