Interesting, I'm surprised at how much weaker people get after buying an e-bike. A single-speed bike sounds like the reverse of the electrical bike effect. Why not try a single-speed bike yourself?

@Delay
My reference wasn't to an ebike, I jokingly wrote "cheater" because he has single speed and I have an 11 speed rear cassette which gives me a better ratio and lower gear to spin more efficiently on steep climbs. With a single speed rather than a lower gear you just have to suck it up and hammer the big climbs, he does this every day and is why he pulls away on climbs from me on his single speed.
Using my experience with my friend is a poor example because we do big "human powered" rides together all the time, ranging from 50-100km in distance and lots of climbing. I do endurance bike races and he just completed a 45 day 4000km bike tour last year. So we are two skilled and fit riders always challenging each other. So basically he crushes the climbs to stick it to me cuz' that's what friends do
My personal opinion is E-bikes don't make you weaker just to touch on that subject matter. My regional experience is in fact people often put in a far greater amount of Zone2 effort weekly improving their strength and cardio because they aren't intimidated to ride and thus ride way more.

Re: My side of the mountain

Going again tomorrow, learning a ton from my FIL. Another 8+/10 day+ out there <-- the afterglow felt like a solid 36 hours of resting ~8/10ness.
Hard to imagine being outside in spaces like this and not getting into that 8/10 groove reliably, so why not schedule a fishing day every week my FIL is in town for the rest of the summer? Think I will.
It's a complete feeling, being out there. Only improved by having my wife and son with me and I know they'll tag along soon; we all love a good river swim.
Sun burnt and smiling (with cold legs cause I'm out there in shorts and sandals

River fly fishing is one amazing way to get outdoor therapy, chill and in the moment amongst nature. A good family activity to explore for the family for sure and see if it is something you can all enjoy together.
