People Compatible with ERE

Post by Stahlmann »

Hello,

I think there was a thread or post somewhere on the forum about the issue mentioned in the topic.

Someone suggested (I think this was from DLj) that the groups involved might include preppers, people working in finance, and artists.

My questions:

Has there been any development in these kinds of armchair studies?

Has anyone noticed women in prepper communities?

When we talk about finance… I assume it means high-level finance. I don't think those people are necessarily the nicest out there. Still, how can an Average Joe connect with them?

Artists? Hmm, why them? And which kind exactly—actors, writers, sculptors, painters?

Cheers

No idea.

Not much, but there are quite a lot of woman here on ere, and thats preper adjacent.

Why would you do that :D

They are used to rely on other form of capital than financial one, due to lack thereof. All of them.

I think an important difference with the adjacent types is that a human can FIRE while still being naive about other forms of capital, and similarly Bohemian artists or Permaculture types can remain naive about financial matters up to a point. So both types can wind up stalled on the side of the highway, due to either no destination or no gas. And this eventuality will default both types to more conventional status quo functioning.

There are also other factors that can come into play. For example, my first permaculture partner worked in finance, so definitely not naive in that realm, and definitely also demonstrated his own flavor of frugality, but his philosophy of finance was extremely less risk-averse than the median found on this forum. For example, much more towards seeking the return needed to generate desired income and not as likely to view all debt as anathema.

I’ve been spending too much time online lately, and I’m realizing it’s leaving me without much real human connection. It’s also tough to find people living the ERE lifestyle in real life. I know it’s easier online, but I want to build more in-person connections.
