Is broadcasting your lifestyle to the world from a perspective of moral superiority... actually minimalist?

Here are a couple of channels/ blogs that I follow:
1. Frugal Queen in France- mid 50's British couple, living very contentedly in Brittany. Frugal renovation, food, etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gc5kD30Rw2I
2. Frugal Jo- late 40's US family living in a village in England. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcLjT2bXLzk
3. Mean Queen- blog by a late 60's English lady. A little eccentric, but sometimes good content
4. A smaller and simpler life blog- https://asmallerlifelivingsimply.blogspot.com

DW follows Off Grid with Doug and Stacy.

This lady is amazing:

She and her husband are 60 YO - she has more energy than most 30 YOs!

But they’re off-grid homesteaders, not minimalists.

I'm an Xer minimalist, and have been for more than a decade. Its part of why I live in an RV. I'm far from the only RVer I've met who keeps things deliberately simple. You might have success if you start your quest with RVing channels.

That said, over the last few years I've become more and more convinced that minimalism is just a coping strategy, like pretty much every other -ism. So this personal best practice is no longer a law. And like adopting minimalism in the first place, becoming less legalistic about it has made me a happier person.

Good luck finding less. :)

I suspect the term minimalism is relatively new. Older content creators might have used terms like radical simplicity, simple living, off grid, frugal, nomadics, ...

Dan Price might be a good example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdLAM-wChxY

Minimalism seems to be a trend name, a term that applies mainly to how many objects one owns, while living in a room and getting food from somewhere outside of the video screen. Occasionally there is a tie in with travel and how easy it is to move with few possessions, perhaps with advice on how to earn money online.

(Possibly unfair criticism below:)

There seems to be a focus on material things and not as much focus on meaning or purpose, how one obtains food, how much waste one produces, what one does with their time or which methods one enjoys following their fascinations. I think there are richer and deeper trend names that provide more real life advice, where minimalism gets caught in its own less is more dogma, and tends to focus on those 20 things which one needs to own to follow a minimalist lifestyle.

Turns out that "decluttering with my mom" is a common topic of [millennial] minimalist youtubers

(It didn't occur to me to look for "indirect solutions". Thanks algorithms :-P )

To piggyback off sky's (Possibly unfair criticism), imo there are multiple minimalisms. Having few things, few hobbies, few opportunities, few talents; they are all interconnected. Being a minimalist, off grid'er, career person, family person; all make these decisions (poorly ;p). As said above, our affluence has allowed us to be ever so tiny islands having (sometimes needing) one of everything. Capitalism has offered the ability to outsource the rest.

If I understand the human nature of these types of people, it's a progression. declutter then resourcefulness then resilience. Therefore there are less older minimalists because they transitioned to another phase.
