@Piper: Congrats on finding another job. I hope this one is better.

Remember that work is bussiness. Also on your end. If a boss has clients that don't pay their bills, those clients are dropped in favor of searching for clients that will pay.

Same thing goes for employees: your boss is your client. You offer him your services, in exchange he needs to pay you. Bad paying bosses need to be replaced just like bad paying clients.

Congrats Piper! That must be a giant relief. You'll have to tell us about the new gig once you get settled in to it.

I'll be working as a web developer in a university. No more sitting in a room with the boss and his New York accent hollering "where are the orders?" "stop talking and start selling," "just do what you're told" and my least favorite, "buyers are liars." It's no wonder they were a sinking ship.

Nice! As far as employment goes, I think University work is about as good as it gets. But I have a soft spot for educational institutions, so I'm probably biased.
Those are insane quotations by the way. I'm surprised you lasted as long as you did. Good luck at the new gig!

@Piper: At least that boss said it out loud. My boss comes at my desk and asks how far I got with the assignment. I explain where I stand and then he asks me to go quicker, otherwise we won't make it in time. (Oh, I had just started a day ago with the assignment by the way.) And he came back like that, several times a day. That's like trying to be subtle about it, but failing and doing some sort of a silent version of what your boss was doing.

Very annoying and counterproductive too.
And when I was with a client, there was a manager there that came in several times, because he needed something at a specific hour. Off course there was an unforseen problem, so it took a bit longer. He came in several times to see how far we stood and even better: he walked in with his watch in plain side, like he was showing us the time.
