I'm not aware of any plugins that will completely prevent a determined spammer from posting these inane messages.
I am assigning moderator rights to a few more people (as many as it takes) which should ensure that the spam posts will be deleted within a few hours at the worst.
When I log in, I'll kill the thread entirely (moderators can't do this), so keep that in mind if you want to flame the spammer a bit.

Good move.... Thanks in advance to the moderators, whoever they are. :-)
So as I understand it, the rule of thumb: don't bother with threads having '0' messages?
As I also understand, the spammers are "one-message-wonders" so flaming is a bit pointless?

If you're referring to me, I assumed the threads would be eventually deleted. And I certainly didn't expect the spammers to read replies. I was just messing around.

@dragoncar, I knew you were "venting out" back then :-D, I was referring to Jacob's "so keep that in mind if you want to flame the spammer a bit" point in my remarks.
That was all.

Surio.

So I fixed or rather "patched" the problem. I approve each new registration manually now. Since there are about 15 junk registrations for each real registration, genuine registrants may fall through the cracks.

Jacob,

I had wanted to suggest the approach to you, as this is the "modus operandi" of some other forums (unix/linux, since you ask) that I've been on. I wasn't sure if the overhead would be acceptable to you, but it seems you've bitten the bullet yourself. It seems traffic/activity and spam are inexplicably interlinked :-|

I seem to have found a plugin that works.
(I also spent the past 3 days deleting about 400 fake accounts.)
Good riddance to spammers!
