Re: Star*Bucks ERE Journal

@Jacob - I don't actually understand what you are saying. I don't understand all the terms. What is QE money? What "good stuff thats not getting called" are you referring to being sold? Do you mean stocks that have gained large capital gain increases? What do you mean by a call on cash? Does that ...

Re: Star*Bucks ERE Journal

$44k is a great annual net worth increase. The market has turned to shit atm and I am sure that will get better. I cant see why the USA needs to be so affected by China's meltdown. USA only exports 1% of its GDP to China I was reading. So it seems like just a panic reaction. In fact it seems like ...

Freeletics

I was wondering if anyone on here has made a success of freeletics?
I have been thinking of dumping my gym membership and giving it a go. Exercise using the out doors. I am quite interested in muscular development so I am not sure how well it works in that sense. I have seen advertisements for it ...

Be careful benching heavy weights on your on on bench press. Lots of people have died doing that. I generally dont use the "safety" clamps so that if I ever get stuck I can try tipping one side over so the weights fall off and the other side flies into the air!

Congrats on quitting smoking. I felt ...

Re: Retraining in a new trade?

Wow that's pretty awesome that you are on such a massive salary and taught yourself from home. No education costs then.

Another option to get into IT where I am is to start out at a entry level help desk job. Starts usually on about 36k and lots of opportunities to progress within IT from there ...

Re: My day off

This is one thing I miss about my old job from years past; we got 3 weeks vacation and 80 hours of sick time per year. I remember in the year prior to my resignation, I used almost all of it. I knew I was on my way out the door so I figured screw it, it's a benefit awarded to me I might as well use ...

Re: Risks of catastrophe in renting?

Yes I think you can be liable for any damage which is rather scary. Something to stop you getting rich real fast. So I have tenants insurance to cover liability. Its only $22 a month though.

It baffles me when some people dont notice beauty.
I even relish walking around my own neighborhood often and enjoy looking at all the historic buildings and parks and flowers and trees and vegetation. I have been talking night walks recently since its light out now until 9pm

Re: Are Student Loans The Next Mortgage Debacle?

I think the student loan thing is quite unfair. It seems to me like in some countries the system allows young people to be lured into massive debt for educational qualifications which provide a lesser return on investment. Terrible way to start out life. And the people who perpetuate that system ...

I love oregon. For me it was the most beautiful place I visited in the US. Loved all the green everywhere. Very cosey.

Did - not sure if your already onto this but another thing I would love to do if I wasn't working was make my way around by delivering cars for free. So I have a luxury transport ...

Well, forced to hastily eat my poorly-thought-out words once again. It recently came to my attention, that due to small world effect, I am currently the mistress of one of the 400 people who attended the funeral of Sir Edmund Hillary. So, turns out that he was almost certainly one of you people ...

Re: Retraining in a new trade?

Great advice Dragline. +1

It sounds like the electrician work pays more than what you currently earn. Starting at the bottom. On that basis I would go for it give it a run. But then you say it will cost you 6k to fund it yourself, which would make me say no don't do it. Why do you need to fund it ...

lol full disclosure. Was worried you skipped with $40k and were hanging out for cash. ;) Sounds like you are right then. Nice work on getting a few random income streams. Must add to the feeling of independence.

You mentioned that you are needing some cash from your part time job. I also don't quite understand your financial position when you left your job from your first post. Was it a $500k house plus $40k leftover or was it you sold ...

Our only real over the top budget item is travel, which is about 5% of our income.
I have never regretted any travel spending. With the exception of money on expensive hotels and rental cars in my more wasteful days. I recently had to endure a rather unpleasant experience for about 45 minutes and ...

Re: Crisis 2016 Radar

The main thing I have been worried about is what the media have also been talking about - China.
China seems to have experienced quite significant growth for a long time. But how can it continue. The reasons I am thinking why it might not are:

1. Lack of technical innovation despite population ...

Hi Medsaver.
Wow $4mill - you have your eye on a big prize.

Your income is really high which should help. I'm presuming your doctors so I imagine that your income can continually keep rising.
Your rent looks quite high. Not that I am one to talk. Whereabouts are you based?

Re: How Were Your Investment Returns in 2015?

Great question.
Mine were disastrous. My stocks funds overall are around a 10% capital loss since inception. Unfortunately I started investing for the first time ever in June this year. Just before everything started turning to shit. At a peak price. Sigh. Oh well I expect recovery in the long run ...
