Re: Fixit Log

I have been poking around on stack exchange getting help there. Sclass I think you were right. Take a look at my post here https://diy.stackexchange.com/questions/300227/why-isnt-my-wine-cooler-powering-on? The fuse just happens to be bundled right in with the start capacitor under the black plastic...

Re: Fixit Log

Thanks Sclass I'll have a look around. Good point about the electronics governing the cycling of the compressor. I'll take another look and upload some photos later. I don't know if it's possible to truly live in the moment without knowing your wine is staying right at 8.5 C. Not knowing would weigh...

Re: Fixit Log

I might have stumbled upon a gem. Was scrolling through Kijiji recently and spotted a wine cooler in the "free stuff" section. The description said "needs a new start capacitor. All other components functional" I thought that's interesting. I googled it - turns out the thing is w...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

It was a great time! It's one of those things I had never really thought of doing, mostly because of costs. However I had a lot of fun. We are going to see Walk Off The Earth this June too, which has been my favourite band since I was in highschool. I know I'm going to enjoy that too. It's good for ...

Re: Jossstick's Journey / Journal

As someone who dabbles in music but has never pursued it full-time (I still get nervous even singing in front of others) I find your journal very neat. I'm excited to hear about your attempts at self-sufficiency with your house and plot of land. Welcome to the forum, you're going to learn a lot arou...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

April flew by for me. My job has been relatively busy, as I have been put in charge of the program's second largest fundraiser (at least by revenue and profit we earn from it). It's the old cash calendar fundraiser. We get sponsors to place ads, print calendars, sell the calendars for $20, and keep ...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

I've been hearing a lot of good reviews for Vevor tools. I appreciate companies like them making being a "maker" more accessible than ever nowadays. The saw itself is great. I can't believe how nice it is to cut metal with just safety glasses and gloves on...No respirator, no face shield, ...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

Income $6409 Expenses $2000 I was able to put away more than $4000 in March– alright! I earned around $6400, and spent just under $2000. I had a sizeable tax refund, as my tuition from university that had been carried forward was finally applied this year. My big purchases included: - a Vevor metal ...

Re: Mastermind Group #2: Electric Boogaloo

My takeaway from the meeting was the importance of creating an environment where spontaneous connections and interactions can occur. @grundomatic asked the group when our social lives were richest - a lot of us said high school, college or grad school. Education is filled with places for those inter...

Re: My side of the mountain

I don't have any great advice for you, but I am sorry for your loss. You sound like you're on a good path, and that you're a wonderful father to your boy.

I'm excited to find out what is on the other side of the door for you!

Re: Fixit Log

If you want to get all fancy-dancy, they do make TIG rods for welding on tool steel. 5x more expensive then ER-70S according to This Old Tony on Youtube. Similar idea to my hardfacing stick rods. I used those to weld the edge on my kindling splitter last year...that edge has seen a lot of use and I ...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

I read the thread about the Skillathon, and I love the idea of it. I didn't want to commit to anything though, as my life is quite busy as it is. However, it looks as if January was my unofficial month of electronics repair! All the laptops I "re-animated" are still working fine. In additi...

I was already going to comment just after seeing the photos of your sausages  But then I scrolled up further and saw your plans for your studio. 1) Your sausages look more than OK. I just finished breakfast, and you made me hungry all over again. 2) Please keep the updates going on your studio ...

Re: Bicycle7's Journal

@Bicycle7 It was great to catch up with your journal. Initially I was going to say just apply to a bike shop and learn there...but then I read Mf's post. That is one thorough course, and I'm sure it would be super fun and helpful to be surrounded by people as crazy about bikes as you are. I have lea...

Re: Poor Air Quality - High AQI

Very interesting. I just got myself a Coway, but the smaller Airmega 150. It is working wonderfully, and has helped keep me healthy even as people in my household have been getting sick repeatedly. My girlfriend has it down at her apartment right now, as she's having a get together tonight. It's one...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

I have gained the power to reanimate laptops - through Linux!! Mwahahaha. I need to start with that, because I'm having so much fun with it. I recently finished the holiday circuit with my girlfriend - seeing all the family and getting and giving gifts. We kept our nose sprays close at hand, because...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

I'm a little late making this entry - oops. Life is going well though. One of my big landmarks that I've hit is actually being semi-ready to purchase land. For 4 years now it has been a dream/long-term plan, but now with my cash steadily increasing I am beginning to see properties that I could purch...

Re: Optimism Resources

Reading that article makes me want to vomit, so I suspect I’m not the target audience. You can substitute God/faith for every mention of optimism in that article and everything still flows. Optimism is really the religion of the technologists. I felt the same way, which is funny because I'd say in ...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

October seemed to fly by for me. Also, because the pay schedule changed for my job, I ended up getting 2x what I normally earn. I earned over $7000, spent $1500 and put away around $5500. I can't actually think of too much enthralling that happened. Well, I guess one mystery is a bike showing up in ...

Re: Building a better world - Cam's Journal

That's an excellent perspective to take delay I like that. I have been sitting on the edge of the office chair at work while working and my back feels a lot better afterwards. The original issue was solved at my last couple chiropractor appointments, but now I think I overstretched a muscle in my le...
