Re: Europe ere climbing meet up 2025

@jean yes the kids speak German (and they can translate for me haha) - so yeah that sounds great - I'm sure they will have fun with the neighbour's kids - and wow I did not know there was a kid there - fantastic!

re. swimming attire - does nude count as attire? (just kidding... barely).

Re: Europe ere climbing meet up 2025

Hey everyone - I am considering coming - I met up with bos who happens to live 100m from my workplace and he is active with the meetups and inspired me to make it happen.

One question - is anyone bringing any kids?

I'm thinking to maybe just bring my oldest son (aged 10) - the other 4 kids would ...

Re: Maximizing Health

I would say rather than "health > wealth", it's more about "health + wealth" (... + a lot of other things like friends/family, self-fulfilment, wisdom/knowledge, low stress etc.)

The main question here is ... what will happen to the underlying economy...
Short answer:
To the underlying economy, not much will happen.
To the financial markets - a lot more volatility.

What could specifically happen is that more than one major breadbasket fails in the same year.

Jacob - I would be interested to hear your thoughts on global food supply-chain risks at the moment with the Russia-Ukraine war seemingly not ending any time soon, and the massive amount of calories ...

Please comment. I'd be interested to hear this community's thoughts. How can I recover? What to do?

One mistake that I don't believe you listed was this:
- investing in 'exotic' investment products

When people get rich, or retire, it's easy to get bored (or greedy) and start dabbling in more ...

What works now will probably not work 10 years from now.

What about a 'World' ETF? (e.g. one that holds the top 100 or top 1,000 companies in the world)

Hasn't something like that (averaged out, and with a holding period of many decades) had strong returns in the last century, and isn't it ...

Yes you're probably right, I was just in a judgemental mood I think ;)

 Yeah don't worry you're not the only one. Sometimes I start thinking/talking the same way, and then I remember that life is short, all 'morals' are made up, and the only thing each of us has to do is live and enjoy ...

Re: Is Finland the ERE nation?

...there's lot of stink eye directed at those who remain unemployed for longer than absolutely necessary.

I would agree with this (it's similar in all of the northern European/Scandinavian wealthy countries). Generally, "working" or "contributing" is seen as part of the requirement of being ...

Re: Is Finland the ERE nation?

I know that the Danish system for EU migrants is set up to prevent this.

Yes precisely - the Danes only pay a progressively increasing % of benefits to families with children until you've been there around 5 years. So "coming for the welfare" doesn't really work as you will only be getting a ...

Re: Is Finland the ERE nation?

I don't think though it's quite as cushy as you imagine, and anyway, you shouldnt be trying to milk welfare systems without paying your way.

Why not?

If there is a policy of allowing people who are living in Finland legally to receive certain social benefits, why shouldn't one receive those ...

Is Finland the ERE nation?

I've always been impressed by the resiliency of the Finns.

I also noticed that in Finland, and in northern Europe in general, a much greater willingness to use things longer (years longer) and then repurpose them or sell/give away the items after many years of use. It's much less common in northern ...

Excuse the broken English + non-perfect YouTube auto-generated transcript, but I'm getting serious ERE vibes from Jon Jandai in this video.

Re: Online casino bonuses and matched betting

Has anyone exploited online casino bonuses or done matched betting for a bit of extra money? This seems like an easy side hustle that you can do whenever you feel like it. Obviously in some countries this is not legal. In the UK, not only is it legal, it is tax free.

Yes. Got to around $15k ...

I have a very similar system to @oldbeyond, and I think many on the forum probably do as well, even if they don't realize it.
