Re: Incassaforte encore AMA interview

While I'm anxiously waiting for the next episode of America's Next Renaissance Man to drop, I want to float an idea here! I really liked the interview Seppia had with Jacob, since it went beyond the simple intro ERE style and it was a fun well flowing conversation. I thought that I would also enjoy ...

Re: A Journey of Mindfulness--the Remaking of Life in Midstream.

IlliniDave, one thing that you didn't mention as a 'negative' is the fact that you'd have 24 hours less free time per week! Maybe even more, since you'd also need some time to unwind. Furthermore being a SME also sounds energy intensive, so your real free hours could also be somewhat lower quality. ...

Re: The Education of Axel Heyst

Great AxelHeyst, congratulations on breaking free! I've found my self going back and forth on the merits of thinking and engaging with the ERE mindset vs living more serendipitously (kinda like Taoism). I feel like you have done a lot (and I mean *a lot*) of mental heavy lifting already wrestling wi...

Re: Learn to be easy to live with?

It might also be interesting to think about what a bad roommate would be like. Then invert that behavior. One counter intuitive thing is to be clear and firm (but not rude) in communicating your own expectations and boundaries. If you don't tell people what you want or expect, you cannot be surprise...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

We can describe two questions: 1) How can I sell ERE to someone else? 2) Given that I am sold on ERE, how can I achieve it/level up? Regarding 1): @AxelHeyst, if I understand you correctly, I think you argue that other people cannot be sold on ERE. You either already grok it, and the book/this forum...

Re: Just a young Melon rolling by

Welcome Melo! What kind of things do you like? I recently got inspired by https://alastairhumphreys.com/microadventures-3/ and https://beaumiles.com/, maybe this is something for you as well? And have you read the book by Jacob already? ERE might also give you some insight in how you can combine FIR...

Re: ERE Mastermind Group

All right, last Sunday it was my turn to sit in the "hot seat" of the mastermind group (MMG). A write-up of my experiences! Background I started the Mastermind group with the "high level goal" of moving from LeanFire (which I already kinda am) to ERE (which I definitely am not). ...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

What this does show: It conveys the increasing degree of resilience. You can snip several flows (lines) in WL7 w/o rendering it unfunctional. WL5 is more fragile. There's a difference in kind between the stages and it's clear what it is. This makes the validity of levels easier to understand and ho...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

@BookLoverL: nice, I dig those examples. I especially recognize me-of-a-few-years-ago in de WL5 social description. A penny saved is a penny earned, and with assumed 5% return, it's even multiple pennies through a lifetime! So why go have one drink with friends ever instead of always insisting to ca...

Re: Systems!- Level 6 towards 7

I tried to make some web of goals for a WL5/6/7 based on Jacob's description. Due to space limitations it's very tiny, but I tried to capture the following: WL 5 has one main source/stock for producing yields. WL 6 has multiple stocks that produce yields, but no synergies yet (superfluous stuff is j...

Re: Incassaforte encore AMA interview

Excellent. I have some questions for both of you: What is your favorite dish you can make (and do you have a recipe?) Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck or 100 duck-size horses? What is something you want to achieve this year? How did you meet your partner? What is the quality your partner li...

Re: Interview with Jacob

I enjoyed it too! I felt it was more of some kind of back and forth (aka a conversation) you would have at a meetup, because you (Seppia) also share some stories or opinions on certain topics. So don't worry about your interview technique, unless jacob was very miffed that he couldn't talk about his...

Re: The ERE Wheaton Scale

I think replacing the SR or spending by something like the just developed Income Robustness Score might also be a good idea. More generally, I think some measure of the robustness/resilience of ones web of goals (explicit or implicit) also makes sense.

IR: 1 + 0.63 + 0.41 = 2.04. 1 active, 1.04 passive(ish) (<2 hours of work a week). If my active source went away the passive numbers would be higher because of tax stuff. H-IR (@nomadscientist idea) would be 3*0.41= 1.23

All right! I count 4 yes, 1 yes if no clash, 1 wary yes and 1 yes but prefer later. I think if we are with 7 we can simply use zoom/google meets/jitsi. 2021 online ERE meetup

I was wondering if forumites here would be interested in doing a digital meetup! Since most of us have gained a lot of experience with online meetings, I thought it could be nice to have an online meetup with you people as well. As for the format, I'm still mulling it over. I see several options: We...

Re: leanFIRE and fatFIRE definitions

Lean FIRE: I'd have to cut spending somewhere. FIRE: I could continue living exactly as I do now. Fat FIRE: I could spend even more and live like a king. So for people new to the concept, it's a sliding scale of sacrifice. That's how you get multi-millionaires in HCOL areas talking about how living...
