Depends on the country,
"Strong Currency" nations can print extra money with impunity. So these would be America, China, Eurozone, UK, Japan, maybe S.Korea.
Of the rest of countries that are short of cash will have to rely on "haircuts" of savings. Which is taking cash directly from ...

Re: How much do you save into pension (UK)?
I think if you are young 0% is a good number, since every £ in the pension puts your retirement date further away. If you can retire at 37, it makes any money in your pot that you can only touch at 55 redundant. (Although I would use it as an additional savings method after reaching FI).

Re: UK Tories Plan To Increase Pension Age To 75
My expectation for many years is that state Pensions would eventually default in some way, either raising retirement age or un-reachable requirements.
There is another long term option for the government to deal with pensions and that is to make 30% retirement saving mandatory for all workers. I ...

Re: How do you dry your clothes?
If you run out of space to hang things, I used to lay this down on the bed in my tiny Beijing apartment to put wet clothes on: https://www.amazon.com/Qbedding-Cooling-Ancient-Sleeping-Mattress/dp/B01H0HIN0O/ref=sr_1_34?keywords=bamboo+bed+topper&qid=1572015089&sr=8-34

How do you dry your clothes?
I'm fairly robust versus cold, but I often find myself heating my place just to get clothes dry. It's an awful lot of energy for something so simple. Obviously in the summer I stick my clothes out to dry on the line with good ol' fashioned solar power, but with winter coming I'm looking for some ...

1. Has anyone seen any good 101-type introductions to investing (i.e. speculating) in cryptocurrencies? An ideal material I would be looking for is a recent article by someone knowledgeable on crypto and trustworthy saying "here are the 10 cryptocurrencies I am most long and here is why".

50% of miners disappearing instantly is highly unlikely (we're talking asteroids here). The biggest miners have decided to split off and make a new currency. They have only have 0.25% of the network. Going back to what your were saying about Antpool/Bitmain getting raided. That would have no ...

Does this change affect you if you are already in the UK? I'm asking because my partner is also not a UK citizen. As explained earlier, leaving now is not practical.

it also seems incorrect that energy consumption doesn't decrease with increased hardware efficiency - isn't that what efficiency means? certainly the specialized chips used now use less energy than the old GPUs they were mining on back in the day, per hash?

Re: Mechanical protection against garden slugs?
In the endless battles between slugs, my greatest ally has been cold winters and hedgehogs.
A method of protecting your plants is to grow onions and garlic & leeks around the borders, slugs don't like this.
I also place out crushed egg shells, sometimes coffee grounds and very occasionally a ring ...

Zopa and other P2P lending sites will allow you to lend out on a term of 12 months (with an option to sell the product on if you require the money sooner). Zopa gets ~3% on personal loans, others lending to businesses offer ~7% returns. These are especially good as last year a new ISA was introduced ...

Re: ICO Gold-rush -- Tokenize the world via Blockchain & Smart Contracts
About three to four years ago I predicted bitcoin would go to zero, because its only value derives from people believing it has a value.
Hopefully this isn't too much nerdy detail, but here we go:
Money's value is derived from it's material properties not "belief". Similar to how brass is good ...

On loaning and lending: a good path?
I'm interested in the idea of taking out low interest unsecured loans and then loaning the capitol out on p2p lending systems.
Low loan rates are 2.7%-4%. Busness P2p sites get a return of ~7% on passive lending, if you select loans personally you can get 10%.
I can see it could be possible to ...

I need help findinga blogg
A few years ago I came across a blogg by a man, (who I think had a computing background) who tried different "life hacks" and blogged his progress on them and the effect they had on his life.
