Update 9/7/2019 I've also began to contemplate life after FT work in a more real way. Meaning not some fantasy of it being great, rather what my day-to-day will entail and how this stuff could impact future ability to take part in activities I may enjoy (ie future employability, etc).
I obviously have zero experience with what you're going through, but this sounds like a very important and necessary step when looking from teh outside.

In bocca al lupo!*

*literally translates in "may you end up in the mouth of the wolf", but it's the italian way to say "good luck"

Update 9/12/2019
I'm done!! Last shift was an overnight which ended this morning. I got nominated for a Daisy award, which is a national recognition award for nursing excellence. It was a big surprise to me that they announced in the morning huddle. Weird how that stuff works.

The GF had to work on days in the OR today but left this for me when I got home.

PRN is a latin term used in medical field. Pro re nata, which means as needed. Her way of telling me I only need to work "as needed" for the rest of my life. She also bought me my favorite sugary treat, old fashioned doughnuts. What a sweet girl. I ate three before I fell asleep for the day. I sign off tonight officially semi-retired. May the ERE gods treat you all as kind as they have treated me.

@seppia and @horsewoman thanks for the well wishes.

PRN for life! Well, maybe not, but it sorta sounded tough in my head. Way to go and I hope you get to enjoy your semi-time off!

Congrats! When I saw the top half of the picture with a label of "prn", I was expecting something a little different when I scrolled down to see the rest of the picture. Not quite the prn I was expecting...

Anyway, I love reading about people who make deliberate conscious choices in their lives, especially if it's to take a non-standard bearing, and what I love even MORE is reading about the new path their lives take. Please don't ride off into the sunset and disappear from here! Keep posting!

And a little something for me -- post #700!

Congratulations! What will the first free day look like?

We ran into a 67yo newely retired nurse in a hostel a few days ago. He left his wife at home working. She is also a nurse who is afraid to retire because "health insurance". Good for you for freeing yourself!

Congrats dude! You might get a little freaked out at some point, but I can definitely tell you that you wont regret taking time off, life is short! No one is ever going to sit on their death bed wishing they could have spent more time working for money. Any goals for this time off period? It helped me to make progress on goals each day.
