2000: No savings.

2005: 4% SWR

2010: 3% SWR (financial crisis put a brake on things, was close in 2007)

2012: 2% SWR

Jacob, do you now, 9 prosperous years later, have a SWR in the 0.x % or in the 0.0x % range?

1.25% in 2021 for me. Aiming to go into the 0.7% - 1% range.

I would stop accumulating now if I found a way to guarantee capital preservation.
BTW, if anyone offered me to guarantee my capital (till the day I die), in exchange for any potential return investments, I'd take that deal in the heartbeat. But, AFAIK no financial institution offers a deal even close to that. This can shed some light on what the pros (financial institutions) believe about long-term odds of preserving capital, let alone making a profit off of it... It's a very different opinion than people in the FIRE world hold.

So in 1.5 years you went from having 0.33 year of expenses saved to almost 4 years of expenses saved? Nice! That's a nice improvement. And now you have some money in savings that will make you more money, helping you speed up this process some more.

I had to go back and calculate this from my spreadsheet.
2011 - 93.9% (Age: 27)
2012 - 76.9%
2013 - 76.2%
2014 - 48.1%

2017 - 23.9%
2018 - 12.3% (began drastically reducing expenses here)
2019 - 5.5%
2020 - 5.5%
2021 - 4.7%

I recently did a (temporary) move to a VHCOL area (career opportunity). My SWR skyrocketed to nearly 18% (up from 8.3%) but not planning on staying here especially given the recent collapse in tech valuations. I thought there was a lot of paper money waiting for me at cliff date but looking at how public market is treating our competitors (our 409a is inflated) makes me think I should cut my losses and move on sooner than planned.

Two cents... As I looked back on my many career moves, one mistake I made was not milking decent positions until the end as I was a little two quick to move when things went bad. Although I enjoyed my free time, one position in particular would have resulted in a very high payout had I stuck it out a few more months (but could have been more years as the payout date was unknown to all but top executives). Hindsight is 20/20.

Oh, no, haha. Made it a year retired without having to tap into retirement savings.

Was 1%. Asset prices collapsed, expenses went up as I realized it increased quality of life. Cash flow stable and greater than expense.

About 4-5% now.

No stress at this point thanks to cash flow. Life amazing at this point. Biggest expense was increase in room size, location, and healthcare (premium gym, saunas, skincare, massages, protein and fiber are more expensive than carbs and fat).

Settled into a base and expecting expenses to decrease. So expenses are 50-100% higher and asset prices down 60-75%. Expecting expenses to decrease a bit, cash flow to stay, and asset prices to increase within 3 years.

2006 -10% SWR (spend consistently more than I earned)

2008 no debts anymore, 99% (S)WR (nothing safe about it, actually)

2010 60% WR

2012 40% WR
I hope to reach 20-25% next year, it's definitely speeding up.

Updates:
End of 2013 25%
End of 2014: 19%
End of 2015: 14%
End of 2016... hopefully 11%! We'll see... It's 11.5%
End of 2017: 8.5% (I was hoping for 9%)
End of 2018: 8.3%
End of 2019: 6.9%
End of 2020: 6%
End of 2021: 4.9%
End of 2022: 5.1% (due to the market not doing its usual thing)
