Purchasing for a large corporation. I was surprised there weren't more corporate people on here.

teenage babysitter

counter clerk at dry cleaners

waitress at Bob's Big Boy (paid my way through college)

teaching assistant (paid my way through graduate school)

community college lecturer (paid part of my way through medical school)

physician

stay at home mom of three (the HARDEST job!)

physician again

musician (ok, this is a side gig, and although I've been paid a pittance a couple of times, I'm far from being in the black. Still, by the time I retire, I might be good enough to pick up a little pocket change playing gigs while enjoying my hobby)
As a holistic physician with a long gap in my resume due to child-rearing, my income is not what you might think, although adequate for my needs. Too late for ERE but looking forward to retiring somewhat earlier than I would have otherwise.

I'm a software engineer; so developer, hands on architect, consultant etc. I have been doing it for more than 12 years. For the last 2 years I have been working remote (from home); so no more daily commutes.
If the assignment is technically challenging, I like doing it, else it is a real life drainer.
Some of my main reasons to become FI:

- easier say no to an assignment if it doesn't add anything to my life apart from money)

- perhaps take some time off to focus on things I really love to do but are potentially not bring in money (but probably still software development related like writing a book)

- deal with the fact that I'll be an old basterd in the very near future (I'm 37 now) and keeping up will become more and more difficult.
If all goes well, I should be FI in 2020.

high school: retail jobs
college: waitress, pharmacy technician
post-college: online advertising account manager, ad operations for startup that powers a sharing widget

*stuck in the rat race, far from ERE though I make a pretty decent salary at this time... trying hard but it's tough living/commuting in the Bay Area & having a SO who's anti-ERE. still very happy I've found this resource along with all of you! (am a lurker more than a participant)

@celliott - did you start your own janitorial business? very curious about how lucrative it has been for you...are you in CA?

all the varieties of professions has been really interesting to read about! :)

Banking business analyst for 25 years.

Towards the systems analyst side, with increasingly frequent spells in 'pure' business analysis & product management.

Have electronic engineering degree - likely that helped me in through the door more than once 'looks like he can do abstract thinky stuff and evidently can graft' - but have used essentially none of it.

Before leaving uni: copy typist, freelance programmer, temp no-skill work, insurance clerk. Always earned my way.

Used to work in logistics for a hospital then I transfered to the patient care side of the business and then back to logistics. I then moved into financial services - my job was auditing invoices and contracts, training users on the procurement systems, and creating financial reports for VPs. I then bounced to the IT side where I currently work as a senior systems administrator. Working in IT has been very fun for me - the work is interesting and requires constant learning which I enjoy.
