Of all the DIY things I've researched/googled, I don't know if I've ever encountered a skill that more people consistently recommend taking it to a professional than setting up a guitar. Well as you can probably guess by now, I did it today and it was easy and came out perfectly. If you can read and have a moderate mechanical aptitude enough to understand what part each component plays - then it's really not hard at all. If you don't completely understand why they say the truss rod isn't for adjusting string height, then stop.
Keep in mind this is all short of cutting and gluing... But basic setup and even resetting a bolt on neck, is very straightforward. I recommend read until you understand how everything works, then take your time.
