Hello Everyone! :D

I came from a third-world country and migrated to the US ~ 10 years ago.
I discovered the ERE blog around that time and realized that this was already how my family lived while I was growing up. We didn’t have a choice but to do a lot of DIY and be frugal. However, we didn’t live like that to retire; we lived like that to survive.

It took me many years to read the ERE book because I thought I wouldn’t learn anything new. I finally read it a year ago, and it is indeed a philosophical book. Many of the concepts resonated with me.

There are many things I want to improve. I would like to develop self-discipline, be thoughtful about my choices, and be clear about my values. I also want to retire early. However, I find myself constantly distracted, addicted to entertainment, and easily influenced. :?

Hey there, welcome! I'm from another not-so-developed country and I got a lot of "you dumbfuck, people live that way cause they must and cause they're poor, what sort of idiot does this deliberately." One needs a couple of degrees of separation from that poverty to seem cool and edgy when going for extreme frugality.

Self-discipline costs willpower, and one only has a limited amount of willpower. Nobody can walk amidst entertainment and resist it for long. One can use willpower to leave the area of entertainment.
