Pointz, bike navigation app

Post by Slevin »

https://www.bikepointz.com/ Just came across this app this morning, which labels itself as Waze for bikes. Haven’t given it a shot yet due to every bike lane in my city having 3 foot snow drifts in it right now, but I’m gonna give it a shot once conditions improve.

It apparently improves on the google map and waze algorithms by catering to “bike friendlier” roads and bike pathways (large shoulder, bike lanes, slower speed limits). It will also learn from the paths bikers take while using the app, so if it tells you to do something dumb and you take a better path instead, it will self correct over time. Since we seem to have a larger than normal amount of bike commuters here, thought it might be worth sharing here.

I wonder whether it avoids high crime zones, and how it might do that.

Have you used Komoot in the past? I'd be curious to read a comparison review.
