Textile MMG

Post by AnalyticalEngine »

Any interest in an on-thread textile MMG? Possible topics include:

1. Sewing
2. Knitting
3. Embroidery
4. Spinning/weaving/fabric production
5. Fabric materials and care
6. History of different textiles

MMG would be ran on thread with people posting their projects here for feedback and discussion.

Timely for me since I got knitting needles today. I'll post as I create things.

June last year, DGF and I got a bunch of free wool from sheep and alpaca. We originally intended to use the wool as mulch for the garden.

Things have taken a bit of a turn.

The really filthy bits went into the garden. The nicer bits we started spinning and felting.

In the past six months, we have felted four sheepskin and three pair of slippers. We have carded and spun about 400m of alpaca wool and then twined it to make ~200m thread. DGF knitted a scarf with it.

As I shared with friends and acquaintances what we have been doing, quite a few told me they were also creating with fabric by sewing, felting, spinning etc.

In response, I invited a couple of friends to join us at home to spin, knit, sow or work in some way with fabric. This is rapidly becoming a regular feature. I love it! This week will be our third meeting. I'm curious to see how this will evolve.
