I don't think you're wrong. Mostly surprised at my response and the clean slotting into the my middle class upbringing.

This is an example of the using money to make money I am thinking of. A twitch streamer buys a gas station, using leverage, accelerated depreciation and tax savings to come out ahead by $110k today. Assuming the business remains cash-flow positive, it's practically free money:

With that type of mindset, running the biggest mortgage possible makes great sense. It seems to me, people making serious money (short of fortunate speculators) are doing it outside the public markets. I am aware there is a different game. Capital and connections are the price of admission. The people playing it aren't smarter or better than me, but they grok a far more profitable set of rules.
