Electric Bicycle Recommendations

Post by alex123711 »

Does anyone here commute on an electric bicycle? Any specific or general recommendations/ advice?

I used to commute on an electric bicycle. Unless your commute is over about 10 miles or in an extremely hilly area, I would just use a pedal bike with no electrics. The electric bike requires frequent charging and has more things to break down. If you don't want to sweat, pedal in a low gear, moving more slowly, and coast a lot.

How long is your commute? What kind of terrain? How much cargo do you carry? Is it mostly on bike paths or through busy streets filled with cars? What kind of weather? What is your current bicycle?

I think Sky’s advice is good. There are many things one can and should tweak before going for an electric bike as the solution.

It's about a 10km commute, but is quite hilly, if it wasn't so hilly I would continue to commute with a normal bike but it takes almost 1 hour each way currently.

That would be a good reason to use an electric bike.
