Do we really need to have our own kidneys?
First of all it's selfish to hang on to your kidneys when other people would like to have them and consequentially you have a moral obligation to society to give them up.
Second, having your own kidneys and doing your own blood filtration without doing any apparent work (lazy slacker!) takes work away from dialysis workers which may be the end of society as we know it.
Third, your parents kinda gave you your kidneys, so don't you think you owe them back.

I see that pax has managed to push your buttons.
Well, last I checked I had 2 kidneys..so maybe one might be up for grabs for the right reasons/right price? (I really can be quite mercenary, can't I ?)
But since I only have half a brain (per primary school English teacher)..that is not up for sale/barter. I am selfishly going to hang on to it.

I'd rather give up a kidney than work 40 years. I wonder if that would be an acceptable contribution for pax?

Well, from each ... is the standard mode of operation in coherent units like families and small groups. It is not a bad idea because it makes the group stronger.
The problem appears when social coherency breaks down. You can enforce it cheaply with religion or more expensively with laws and force. But it seems that size matters, so this idea never works in country sized regions unless something unifying like war brings it back together.

Well I guess some folks would applaud his actions since he gave back to society and fulfilled his moral obligation/social contract (after all some recipient did get a kidney presumably).
Not only that, he is also contributing to the economy by buying Ipads etc.
The rest of us are all slackers.

@bigato - there are all kinds of drug companies looking to give you money for renting your body out to science.
