ding ding ding ding ding ding! (more or less)

i found a stating point to flavor profile replication:

https://www.ediblegeography.com/how-to- ... ral-water/

https://blog.khymos.org/2012/01/04/mine ... -la-carte/

and some mineral profiles:
Gerolsteiner
http://mineralwaters.geo.uu.nl/mineralw ... er+Sprudel
vs San Pellegrino
http://mineralwaters.geo.uu.nl/mineralw ... Pellegrino
vs horsewoman’s fave
http://mineralwaters.geo.uu.nl/mineralw ... +Fachingen
vs Perrier
http://mineralwaters.geo.uu.nl/mineralw ... nd=Perrier

Gerolsteiner profiles as pretty intense on cal-mg and carbonic acid yes?

@horsewoman's fave seems more carbonated? and saltier

san pellegrino has more sulfur!

i don’t understand the diagrams yet but i’ll figure them out...

I have one of these. The red one. Unfortunately the little fitting that holds the pierced CO2 cartridge cracked and it no longer works. It used to make nice fizzy water. I thought about 3d printing a cartridge holder for about thirty seconds and then I gave up. Sounded like a dangerous plan.

i have the cartridges that fit there for an emergency bike tire inflator—no pumping required. it’s all metal parts though, and it screws tight, so fairly safe.

what would you do with the empty cartridges though? scrap pile?

Looks like they sell the part online. It is exactly the shell that goes on the bike pump that screws down to puncture the cylinder that is missing. I found some online by typing in CO2 charger holder. I have a big pile of the cylinders of CO2. My mom saved them since the 70s because they were expensive. Then she died. Kind of a note to myself.

I recently dug the thing up because there is a certain cake I like that needs sparkling water for the batter.

What do I do with the old gas bottle case? Well when I was a boy I’d put chemicals inside that made them go boom. Today I just planned on trashing them after I ate my special cake.

when i explained to my wife yesterday how this co2 business worked i showed her a picture of anton chighur with his captive bolt gun. she remembered the movie.

funny how the mind turns to weapons

Yes, CO2 pellet pistols and tranq dart guns use the same cylinders.

I had a childhood buddy with a special tool that would puncture the cylinders and allow you to aim them up in the sky as a rocket toy. Not sure where he got it. Ahhh the 70s when toys were dangerous..., the device was basically a gun that made the cylinder shoot off like a rocket. It was pretty wild because it doesn’t have vanes.

Hence why I may just forget about 3d printing a piercing cap for the bottle. I can visualize losing an eye when the pressurizing step malfunctions.

I have a "BubbleCap", a small adapter between the SodaStream type of CO2 cartridge and a standard drinking bottle. The company seems to have died, and I guess it never even sold in US.

As I sit here enjoying my homemade fizzy water, I thought I'd give this thread a bump.

A few years ago, DW and I followed the Frugalwoods post Jacob mentioned and modified our soda stream. The system works as advertised. It was about $120 for the first 20lb tank from the welding supply store, then $30 for refills. We refill about every 6 months.

The tough part was finding the right nozzle hookup. None of the stores we went to had it. We ended up getting this one from Amazon for $75 and it works great.

I like this setup so much that the tank made a cross country drive with us to our new location.

I haven't tried anything fancier than a brief stint using flavor drops, which I did not like. I want to try cloning a mineral water. I'm curious if anyone here had success.
