Real estate is so cheap here. I could buy 2 house with a lot of land for less than what my house is worth.
I could definitely turn one into a rental, or better, a hostel, and voilà.
Gf doesn't want to move to Norway :(
I feel a lot of confort knowing that there are more than enough beautifull secret places in norway for me to discover for my entire life.
Well the rate at which they stop being secret might inceease, but there is a place very close to a tourist hotspot, that looks very tempting, there is one forum post from 19 years ago asking about it, but no other info online, so i assume it is kinda safe for a while :D

You might like the Shetland, Orkney or Faroe islands Jean. Although GF will probably dislike those even more.

I've been to the faeroese. It's not as nice as norway, and quite overcrowded.
But it was a really nice feeling to see so many children playing.
Orkney and shetland are on a list somewhere.
I'm a bit too unfamiliar with the uk to squeeze a visit there within just a week or two.
I could fly, but i don't wan't to fly for a short trip either.

Yes you could spend many months travelling in the UK. There are surprisingly many quite remote areas as well. I think Northumberland would appeal to you, imo its one of the most interesting part of England.

I served as a guide for a youtube video in my area.
It is awesome to put a real face to a name. My French is near non-existent, but your primate vocalizations are top notch. Such beautiful country. I probably should spend more time in the UK and Europe. I remember Scott Galloway once saying that Europe was the playground for the rich: you come to America to make money and then go to Europe to spend it. I would certainly be willing to part with money to spend time in some of thos tranquil places.

@chenda
I want to do a trip along western great britain once, from jersey to the shetland.
@frugaldoc
I wouldn't treat it as a play ground, but europe can be enjoyed in ways north america cannot. Et vice versa, but i prefer the europe exclusives.

@mathiverse
Well, you are still welcome to change your plan and have a raclette with us in july.

Trip to Norway allready comes to an end.
I really like going by train. I gives me the impression to not really leave my country, despite my return trip taking 4 days (i'll sqieeze a day at a swedish beach and a visit to a forum member during the return trip)
I think it was really the intended gosl of interrail:D

Sleeping outside really keeps the cost of traveling down.
Also, it had been a long time since i spent several day camping in the rain, and i'm glad to see that i'm still not water soluble. This is a freeing reminder.
While being homeless could be an administrative challenge and wouldn't be suitable to raise a family, i'm definitely not afraid of the perspective of spending my old age camping in my forest, or any forest.

A big confort zone is really freedom.
I'm a bit stuck probably because i need frame to do things, but i'm very good at breaking frames.
My intrinsic impulse are few. When free of constraint. I like to explore worlds, and squeeze human stuffs into models. I also like food more than just disliking starving.
I get satisfaction from eating good food, havibg good sex, and overcoming obstacles that i encountee while exploring.

It was really great to have a section of relative unknown during my hike in Norway (no trail, not sure about cliff presence). The valley at the end was very rewarding.

Also, they are talking of a direct train link beetween switzerland and london. That would be great to avoid paris!

Also, while waiting for a train, after going to see the cascade, i spent time on reddit, and damn, people are really clueless. They plan trip to switzerland, in way that really make them waste money, and i don't think the wall of advice they get from reddit really helps them. I could help them, charge 100.- per hour, and they would still end up better off than with their own plan. And this without even having to share secret spots :D, just asking their switzerland bucket list, and making an optimal plan.

Great reflection on your trip and thoughts on Vagabonding.

As a minimalist backpacker I agree that so many people over think things or basically over spend on things. It might be a lack of knowledge or familiarity and in a way is what makes the backpacking term for people who bring too much as they are "packing their fears". Same could be said for how we live our lives, we spend so much money on food, shelter and our stuff as we fear experiencing any discomfort.

I try to only pack things i know i will use. Some for not dying (sleeping bag, shelter in area where i know i wont find shelter, water dito, warm cloth, map) some for confort (cooker, food, book).
Some elememt of the not dying category can be replaced by knowledge, or time spent on the hike (you can make shelter, make detour for water, make fire when legal).
But yes, stuff or money are a good way to feel safe, and they sometimes objectively provide safety, but they can cost more freedom than alternatives.
What i like about backpacking, is that you feel the cost of your need on your shoulders, and it helps to asses what is really a need :D
But i'm not a xul fan either. Human can comfortably carry half their weight, and you can sleep very comfortably with half your weigth in stuff :D

Edit: also about reddit people, they not only waste money, but time. They could have a much better trip by paying me to redo their travel plan.
I met a 70yo montrealese in the Göteborg train station. We chated all the way to my stop. He was doing a 5 month trip in europe. At least he had time to make his own path. But he was a former travel guide, and still quite clueless, so it's not only reddit people.
Please if you (any one on the forum until too much people ask me) plan a trip to europe, and especially switzerland, ask me for a free consulting (i'll ask you for an honest review so i can get my service customer friendly enough to charge for them).
I'm pretty sure you are also mostly clueless despite being smart :D

On return trip, i bathed in the skagerak. I always forget that it's not the baltic, so much saltier. I also bought some surströming. I gave one can to @bos and partner on the way and had a delicious diner at their place. I had much less interesting things to say than last time, which made me better able to listen to @bos. So at least i know more about him now :D which is nice.
I would like to have more community in my day to day life. One way would be to convince eremites to move into my house. One other way could be to make some effort to get more relationship with people that leave in the same house as me. Language is a barrier, but not only. My habit of going to my pc as soon as i get home might be a bigger one. One option would be to always spend one hour outside around fürabig.
Other option would be to put my pc in wintergarden.
I could strike a deal with the roomate who speaks the less french to teach help me get better at berntütsch.

Well back to the trip. After meeting bos, i went to a campsite in austria and met wit gf, one of her friend and 3yo daughter and husband.
Campsites are as expensive as hostel, you just trade the "comfort" of a bunk bed for the "privacy" of a tent.
There was an extended family of middle eastern immigrant. They were much more pleasant neighbour than young male middle eastern immigrant often are. Maybe its like young male boar that become a huge nuisance when separated from leading sow :D They also had modest cars, which contrasted with what i usually see. Or maybe it's just that austria is better than france at not turning them into assholes (all my negative experiences have been with france residents).
Well, meeting with friends was nice. Relationship with gf is much better. Don't know what to attribute it to. She says it because we go to therapy. I don't know. All i know is that this therapy is forcing me to look for a job :D

After week end, i went to germany. Green meetup mentionned in other topic is 15 km away from where i left my waterdivide hike at, so i'm hiking this week to do a section of my hike, and go to the meetup. Walking to the meetup and stinking will surely grant me some green status points :D
There was a water divide trail in the area, which is uncommon in europe.
I talked to a few people. For some reason, it seems that slleping in the forest is a big deal to a lot of people.
I probably already said it, but it realky seems like there is a market for outdoor bootcamp that teach you to casually wild camp instead of yelling at you while you ramp in mud to compensate your insecurities.
I don't really understand why so many people just dont trial and error when they want to learn something.

Also, i found wild strawberries. They are really good. Since they are red, i never see an animal eating the, and the seed are intact when we shit them, i am quite convinced that humans might be one of their main propagator (or at least used to).
I wonder if their is a field of biology or anthropology that study the win win relationships beetween wildplants and preagricultural humans. But collecting wild berries really feels good, so there are probably a few of those relationships.

Also, the meet up will be held at a community farm that has been around for decades.
I know many here think that those project never work because they lack doers. But I know a few examples that do work.

Let's hope they all, after hearing your talk, don't leave the farm and farm labor to do ERE instead :)

The people from the farm dont participate in the meetup, but they are making money by providing facilities and catering.
I dont know how much people i could convince. It's very likely that some already have a vlcol lifestyle.
I got good advices.
