@graynomad... are you serious? Is that yours? If you get over 12mpg on that thing, I nominate you for best post of all time.

My husband and I currently still own a car, but at least 50% of our trips are by bike. The car is an inherited 2001 Honda Civic, so not terrible for gas. I'm hoping to sell it this winter and use the money to buy a couple bike trailers.

Yep all mine. We get 4k per litre (~9mpg?) which for a 12-ton 6x6 is pretty good :)
OK not exactly what people are talking about here but OTOH we only average 137k (85 miles) a week driving. That said fuel is of course one of our major expenses, our budget is roughly 1/3rd each fuel, food, everything else.
Of course the fuel is totally discretionary, we spent 8 months on our land a couple of years ago and didn't spend 1c on diesel for that period.
