I almost got burned this week on DNDN. I had a limit order in place. We have a serious medical thing going on here, and I was wrapped up in that all week. DNDN dropped to within pennies of my sell limit before rebounding the same day. I would have been so angry if the order triggered and the stock recovered the same day. I know those orders have their place. I wouldn't be complaining if the stock had dropped to $6 and I sold at $9, but something about locking in losses doesn't sit right with me. I've left my orders in place since things aren't resolved here and I can't really monitor the market, but I'm rethinking keeping orders in place as a matter of course.

ARLP has come down to a reasonable price, so I added today. Likewise, I bought ADC today. Reasonable price doesn't mean bargain-priced, so I haven't bought as much as I'd like.
Still considering selling AGNC, but haven't.
PNNT is looking good. They've recently gone ex-dividend, so that's usually the best time to buy BDC shares.

Bought these three stocks today:
small positions $1200.00 each
Excelon (EXC)
electric utility
Miller Industries (MLR)
manufactures towing equipment, and trailers
Microfinancial Inc. (MFI)
finances equipment for small business
All dividend paying. EXC and MLR not too far off 52 week lows and decent yields. MFI is more of a growth story and a bet on a recovery in small business investment. These are more speculative than my other holdings, they are not CCC stocks by any means, but I thought they might provide good long term income.

DS is home from the hospital now, so I checked my accounts. DNDN should have triggered and sold but didn't. I had entered things incorrectly (I assume because I've been so distracted). Even my post above doesn't make sense. This is the problem with active trading--you have to make sure you're head's in the game.
I removed the erroneous orders and I'm going to let everything ride. It's killing me to just sit around, but I don't want to make any more mistakes.

Sold DUK and bought PPL to take advantage of the different record dates and get two dividends. Could still be a mistake given recent poor performance on utilities.
@jennypenny,
+1 to ExpatERE well wishes. And sometimes doing nothing is the best investment strategy (Siddhartha's wait, think and fast).

Hopelite-- I've been thinking the very same thing recently. I'm starting to believe that profitable investing is more about doing nothing for long periods of time followed by intense, purposeful, concentrated effort when the right time presents itself. I think that when it comes to investing, "boring" is where it's at.

Sell your coal stocks... EPA emission rules are proposed, which will put a crimp in the price of coal companies (and potentially revenue) until the new rules are adopted (or not) and the effects on cashflow are understood. This is in addition to the low natural gas prices holding coal prices down.
If the rules are adopted, the only new coal-fired plants to be built will be "clean coal".

Sold my shares in KBWD yesterday, and will now stay out of dividend payers until I see how the 2013 US dividend tax law changes shake out. I currently buy dividend stocks in my Roth IRA so any tax changes won't affect me directly. However, if other investors who WILL be hit with a hefty tax increase start liquidating their positions, I think any shares I owned would take a big hit. I'd rather keep that portion of my Roth in cash until after that happens and see what the fallout will be. I think if I wait I'll either end up owning more shares or different funds/baskets altogether (I figure some companies might decide to suspend dividend payments in response to an investor exodus).
I presently have 43% of my Roth portfolio in cash... hoping this puts me in a good position to act whenever the funds on my shopping list go on sale.
