Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
@Felix: Lol, It's the book-tator conch avatar!
How about book-tator for their reign, must grace the potator avatar for the duration of their run?
That way posters can see them a mile away, can point at them and make fun of them, and puts the pressure on them to deliver their review as well.
Well, I'm gonna do it anyways, as I am prone to avatar switchyness.
I will switch back when the next book-tator dethrowns me via violent coup-regime change booktator-spring.
How about the process be something like when I am done reading the book I will post that I am done, and wait for 5 other members to say they have completed as well, and than the review and the discussion can start?

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
@MBGI- I like that idea of waiting for 5 members. And the avatar! My requested copy of Flourish is on the way.
My book is pretty new so I hope everyone's library will have it. "What Has Nature Ever Done For Us?" By Tony Juniper.

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
I think I read part of that. I've been following Martin Seligman for awhile. Good choice. I might see if there's a reasonable ebook available or something.
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
Wow turns out it was sitting about 20 feet from me at the library. I thought it would have been checked out or something.
Still might want to get the ebook for my reference.
Do we have a start time? I'm finishing up another book so I'll probably start this after that.
Or I guess the end time is the more pertinent question. At what point do we want to talk about this and start the next book?

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
The book-tator will speak about his or her chosen book first and then others can follow with comments. Anyone can start reading the next book(s) as soon as the next book-tator(s) identifies(y) it (them), but comments should be held back until the book-tator speaks. A few weeks read-time from book to book will be the basic guideline, depending upon the length and complexity of the book. It's really up to the book-tator.
I'll act as the informal lackey/stooge for now who reminds people when its their turn and encourages their beneficence.

I'm in. I might not get everything where I am, but surprisingly my university library actually promised to have Seligman ready for me to pick up in 2 hours.

Oh ok. So the schedule may fluctuate depending on the book etc. That's good probably.
What determines the order? Random? Or just the order in which people posted on this thread or something?
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
In order of posting in this thread.
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
This sounds great. Book #1 on request at the library.

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
Wanted to chime in and say I picked up Dear Book-tater's selection by Seligman and have read the first few chapters. I already have some thoughts and I'm looking forward to discussing it.
As a heads up, I've already decided on my own pick (which will be the third book on our list):
"The 7 Deadly Innocent Frauds of Economic Policy" by Warren Mosler
http://moslereconomics.com/wp-content/p ... s/7DIF.pdf
http://www.amazon.com/Deadly-Innocent-F ... ren+mosler
(I assume all these versions are the same. I'll be reading the free PDF version.)
This is an economic/finance book from one of the pioneers of Modern Monetary Theory. It seeks to explain some of the misconceptions surrounding how money works in a fiat currency economy. It was recommended to me by another forum member (who shall remain nameless for his own safety
) and I figured it would be an interesting book to hear multiple perspectives on--whether you agree or disagree with the concepts.

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
I'm in as well. Just picked up the book from the library today.
Oh, and hi! I'm new here, but wanted to join the forum to participate in the book club. Looking forward to it!
Best regards,
Gunhild

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?

I am innocent, but nobody will believe me.

If you can tear this apart, I'll have to admit defeat and apologize to Riggerjack. I'm curious about the result of this.
And yes, both are the same book.
Also: Welcome to the book club and the forum, Gunhild!
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
Thank you, Felix!

Cool. I'll check this out. Especially with a free ebook. Looks like a good pick.Spartan_Warrior wrote:Wanted to chime in and say I picked up Dear Book-tater's selection by Seligman and have read the first few chapters. I already have some thoughts and I'm looking forward to discussing it.

Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
I'm in for the first book, will participate as grad school and interests allow.
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
Sounds fun. I'm next in line for my library's copy of Flourish.
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
So are you guys reading this right now? I read a chapter sometimes lately.
Re: Book Club? Anyone? Bueller?
I am finished, but I grovel and await the first book-tator to open the discussion. I would guess most would like at least through this weekend. This is intended to be reasonably liesurely.
