I want to start a thread where we post our worst performance reviews. I'll have to find mind first.
@Freedom - my next manuscript was going to be about this sort of thing. I already have the plot, but another novel along these lines would be AMAZING to write. Don't worry you didn't give enough detail to get in legal trouble with your job, just enough to spark some interesting plot points. Thanks!
Finally managed to get Laid Off !!

Loved this thread! What a great and inspiring story. My favorite part, actually, is how you DIDN'T confront anyone, and just totally rose above those jackasses by positive means, achieving your own goals and helping those left behind. Instead of stooping to bitterness or revenge, you made escape your only goal and then quietly made it happen, Shawshank Redemption style. Calm and classy. As they say, good living is the best revenge. In fact, being trapped in such a greedy and manipulative mindset as that manager--being so fully engrained in "The Matrix" that he'd sacrifice his own humanity and morality for the holy "bottom line"--is its own sort of punishment. Let him stay in his own vile corporatist/consumerist stew for a few more decades. Give it time for the guilt and stress to catch up with him in the form of loneliness, grey hair, diabetes, and heart disease.
I agree that it would make a great movie/novel and simultaneously a "mainstream pitch" of ERE values. Good job and congrats!
And for the inspirational soundtrack, ladies and gentleman, Mr. Frank Sinatra:
