@tuixiuren: Mostly I keep it up because our grammas like to read it, but it's nice to know that someone else likes it too. That and I'm still holding out hope for meeting other dirty sailboat tramps who want to start a flotilla with us.

@m741 - I find all that blinding and noisy doublespaced whiteness of the minimalist blogs disturbing to my inner sense of harmony. They're just not quite right. They leave me worried whether my browser parsing broke down and I'm missing half the content.

I also get frustrated with all of the repeated messages from different simple living sites. It is frustrating to mine though a lot of information to not find one new nugget of information or a new tip to try.
However, sometimes it seems that it is not worth it anyway because each person's individual life has circumstances that don't jibe with mine and it seems that I need to figure my simplistic life out on my own. It does become clearer once you are not in the stream of people who constantly follow the "normal" path of work, home, tv and computer (and possibly time with loved ones), sleep, repeat.

@Roark - You are right about us all having it good in earning loads of money with respect to the rest of the world.
I came across these statistics from a Global Health textbook I am reviewing for a course I would like to teach:
Low-income : $995 or less

Lower middle-income : $996 to $3,945

Upper middle-income : $3,946 to $12,195

High-income : $12,196 or above
Based on gross national income per person
My feeling is that once you reach that $12,200/person mark, all the stuff we discuss is just fluff!

@rachels--I'm glad you're keeping up your blog. My son really likes it (after getting over his initial disappointment that it wasn't really about peanut butter).

@rachels Thanks for sharing your story. I like your perspective on things. I can relate to it. Keep your flotilla dream alive. Who knows!

@AspiringYogini - This problem is that simple living and personal finance aren't that complex. These are small fields with limited amounts of information. At some point it will get repeated insofar that the blogs need to keep posting. So maybe the blogs should stop posting or find something else to talk about. This is something I struggle with myself. I feel that since I've built up such a big audience, I should keep talking. On the other hand, I've already said everything there is to say about how to get to early retirement, so all I can talk about is "how to be retired". I have few readers who are currently on the same page as me in terms of where we are in life.
I'm glad MMM is taking over in terms of talking about "How to get there". He hasn't gotten around to saying everything there is to say about ER yet, so he's still full of energy.

I gotta say - this "Mr. Money Mustache" sure is intriguing. After reading one article I was sure I wouldn't read anything I hadn't heard before, but after three I was thinking he is the ES(T?)P version of Jacob, and now I'm reading his article on beer and can't stop laughing.
He certainly has a unique way of expressing the ideas of ERE and makes a nice supplement to Jacob's writings. This article on health was very worthwhile:

I'm not sure if this one is already known or not, but I just found it off a link from JetSetCitizen:
http://www.happierthanabillionaire.com/
She retired fairly young and moved to Costa Rica, where she still lives. She also wrote a book about her experience. Pretty cool stuff. I'm fairly interested in retiring outside the U.S. to maximize my income, but Costa Rica wasn't really on my list. I have long had my eye on SE Asia, mainly the Philippines. Pretty cool blog and story though.

You might want to have a look on a blog I started some weeks ago. It is geared towards downshifting, frugal living and generally living a happy live, and tries to add an European perspective:

I'll also suggest Sixbears in the Woods:

and The Archdruid Report by John Michael Greer which deals with sustainability, peak oil, and, imperial decay.
