@YAW--That's great! How are you doing it? Are you living in a dorm and using a meal plan? Or are you living somewhere with a kitchen?

The taste of the cafeteria food may also help to lose weight! :)

Actually the food is quite well done, much different from high school cafeteria.
Main reason the environment helps is lots of hells and the heat/humidity.
The weekend at the football game people were carried out on stretchers because of heatstroke. By half-game the entire stadium was empty.

@riparian:
Yeah it was not exactly a brilliant idea to play a football game during the hottest time of the day in Texas town that is relatively near the coast.

I found this free app for tracking your diet ... http://cronometer.com/
I have always used fitday's free web app, but I'm going to give this one a try. I have to cut my exercise way back over the next few weeks* so I want to watch my diet closely. It seems like this might be the time to try IF because I won't be doing any strenuous exercise. OTOH, I don't want to cut back so much that it affects the healing process. Tricky.

Should we start a diet/nutrition log to separate that discussion from the fitness one? It's a tough call since they are so intertwined. I also wouldn't want that thread to become just a paleo v. china study debate, even though that would have an important place in any nutrition discussion.

*They found two fractures in the tibia (but no other issues--yay!) so I'm off of the leg entirely now for at least 4 weeks. I can still lift, do ab work, and use the bags. I've taped a picture of Wreck It Ralph up near my weight bench for inspiration. :D

That tracker is the one the calorie restrictors developed/used. I have not used it myself, but it gets generally good reviews.

Glad you can do some work, but take care of that leg!

I appreciate how you're turning a negative into a positive here.

13 sets of 9. Each set now takes about 37 seconds leaving 23 seconds to breathe.

Getting harder to type afterward but I can still lift a glass of water...

Huh. I was picturing something else when you first mentioned clubbells. I guess they're called something different now. The old school name for those was definitely not PC.

Got 46 pull ups again this morning on lightly padded bar: http://youtu.be/9pjVoS61Ubk

Last night I sanded down the callouses on my hands. I used our knife sharpening stone to do it. Mrs. Ego was disgusted. :P I was surprised by how much of a difference it made.

That's awesome Ego! But don't you live by the beach? Wouldn't it be nicer to sand down the callouses using sand and ocean water??

--------
So, I've learned some things things this week...
1. Fasting is HARD. I get weird cravings now. Does anyone else get that? I'm dying for a cigarette. I normally only smoke when I gamble (2-3 weekends a year), but I'm having strong cravings. I also really missed my husband this week when he was out of town, if you know what I mean. Ha! Maybe that explains the craving for a cigarette.
2. Working the heavy bag is tough on one leg. If you punch it too hard it throws off your balance and you fall. That's all I'm saying about that.
3. I can't seem to get my heart rate up enough for a true cardio workout. I lift to failure and do the bags, but it's not the same as moving your whole body at once as fast as you can.

Music...
This week was the anniversary of my dad's death. I usually don't think about it much (it's been a long time), but I thought about it quite a bit this week. He had an office job, but he was also a part-time musician who played the bars down the Jersey shore when I was young. I added some songs that he used to play to my playlist this week.

Three Dog Night 'Shambala' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmTx9y7ePTg
Paul Simon 'KodaChrome' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4ltLp30KVs
Jim Croce 'Don't mess around with Jim' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odkIEDi2x0g
Billy Joel 'Only the Good Die Young' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhjNm20XbXw
Doobie Brothers 'Black Water' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSAqkGU2nQ4

Some days I have no trouble at all with fasting and others I feel like the refrigerator is literally calling me over. Today is one of the later. I feel like it is somehow correlated with the days that I swim.

From 17:20 to 19:20 he talks about the hygiene hypothesis.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hygiene_hypothesis

How I feel on a fasting day is drastically affected by how much fat I ate the previous day. If I had a high protein/carb and low fat day previous, fasting is almost impossible. If I had a high fat/protein and low carb day previous I can get by pretty easily. I try to use this to my advantage and time my days:

Day 1: Low - Carb, plenty of Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Ghee, red meat, tallow, etc
Day 2: Fasting Day: Black Coffee or Tea Only
Day 3: Light AM workout followed by Carb Refeed
