Ack! Change! We fear change!

Seriously, though--thanks everyone for the hard work getting the server upgraded. It's going to take some time to get used to the new layout, but it's much better than seeing the Cloudflare error page 20x a day.

Of course I could avoid that by getting a life, but we all know that's not going to happen...

awesome bigato thanks... although now posts I had bookmarked only go to the home page rather than to the thread :( oh well, small price to pay. Glad to have everything working much more smoothly now.

The old forum url's that are in your bookmars follow this pattern:

forum.earlyretirementextreme.com/topic.php?id=XXXXX

Now to convert to the new forum you type:

forum.earlyretirementextreme.com/viewtopic.php?f=XXXXX
I think this can be fixed in htaccess to happen automatically.

Thank you so much! Very timely also given the demise of Google Reader. I'll take some time to work on that tomorrow if the "automatic" thing doesn't happen by then.

I think so. There's a way to issue a 301 error (I believe) and tell the requestor that the link has changed permanently. This avoids losing existing links (google, bookmarks, blog, etc.).

I did it for the blog in 2007 when I migrated from blogspot to my own URL.

This is just a guess but since you have a test server...

RedirectMatch 301 ^/topic.php?id=(.*) viewtopic.php?f=$1

However, there are also the links that go to specific posts. I don't know if the above suggestion will translate that correctly.

Wow, great job bigato. This is definitely the smoothest transition like this I've seen.

I saved a draft of a post (using the full editor), then I went surfing somewhere else, got back to the forum and couldn't find my draft. Where did it go?

Very nice upgrade. No lag on server. This will probably guarantee a big growth in new forum users.

For some reason I couldn't get this to work yesterday, but it's working today.

under User Control Panel, Board Preferences, changing the date format to "one minute ago..." sets it like the old forum.

Odd, when I set it that way yesterday I got code instead of the date. Oh well, working now.

I just got back from a weekend trip to find the new forum up and running. It looks great and performance is a million times better so far. Thanks, bigato, nice work on the migration.

For me it is magic that we have again a great working forum and good looking website. Thanks to Jacob, Bigato and others for the the trust you gave to each other and crafmanship in each of you to grow to this result.
For I know that magic can looks wonderful but it requires a lot of effort and skills to make it work!

bigato, this is terrific, thank you!
