I was listening to Charles Bradley this morning and this track had me thinking of ERE and the metacrisis:

Here is one specifically focused on inflation with a lot of soul and a killer name:

I Just Want To Celebrate (another day of living) - Rare Earth

One, two, three, four
I just want to celebrate another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate another day of life
I put my faith in the people
But the people let me down
So, I turned the other way
And I carry on, anyhow
That's why I'm telling you
I just want to celebrate, yeah, yeah
Another day of living, yeah
I just want to celebrate another day of life
Had my hand on the dollar bill
And the dollar bill flew away
But the sun is shining down on me
And it's here to stay
That's why I'm telling you
I just want to celebrate, yeah, yeah
Another day of living, yeah
I just want to celebrate another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate another day of life
Don't let it all get you down, no, no
Don't let it turn you around
And around and around and around and around
Well, I can't be bothered with sorrow
And I can't be bothered with hate, no, no
I'm using up the time but feeling fine, every day
That's why I'm telling you I just want to celebrate
Oh, yeah
I just want to celebrate another day
Oh, I just want to celebrate another day of livin'
I just want to celebrate another day of life
Don't let it all get you down, no, no
Don't let it turn you around
And around and around and around and around
Round, round, round
Round, round, round, round, round
Don't go round
I just want to celebrate
I just want to celebrate
I just want to celebrate
Said I just want to celebrate (celebrate)
I just want to celebrate (I want to celebrate)
I just want to celebrate (I got to celebrate)
I just want to celebrate
I just want to celebrate

I've been trying hard to live with less
I've been trying hard to live with less
Seems the more that I lose the easier that I move
And I ain't never never felt so blessed
Seems the more that I lose the easier that I move
I ain't never never been so blessed

Killswitch Engage

This Fire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMdqsS0a9tY
All I've ever wanted was destiny to be fulfilled
It is in my hands, I must not fail
I must not fail
Even through the darkest days
This fire burns, always
This fire burns, always
This is the broken ground
Misery begins to rise
Turn away from yesterday
Tomorrow's in my eyes
Nevermore to be held down
By the wings of history
Nevermore to be cast aside
This day is mine
Us Against the World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqowJmzeEEg
This catastrophe will serve to redeem our purpose
Do you believe, they could never come between us
Our spirit is never ending
I'll be the protection when you fall
The Signal Fire

Strength of the mind
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAipqW5YDH4
Looking back on the life that I lived
(What I leave behind)
Mistakes and memories serve to remind
(They serve me to remind)
The reflection staring back from the mirror
No longer looks like me, like me
Strength of the mind to fight what's inside
It takes strength of the mind
Before I lose control
Who can raise you from the fall and save you
Only you
Who can take the pain away and change you
Only you

I've seen those big machines come rolling through the quiet pines
Blue suits and bankers with their Volvos and their valentines
Give us this day our daily discount outlet merchandise
Raise up a multiplex and we will make a sacrifice

“A Country Boy Can Survive,” by Hank Williams, Jr.

I can plow a field all day long,
I can catch catfish from dusk ‘til dawn,
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too,
Ain’t too many things these old boys can’t do.

A song in a Dutch dialect. Too ERE aligned to ignore. Quick and rough semi-machine translation.

Willem Vermandere, Lat mie mor lopen

I had to study all my youth
Became a top tech specialist
I could program, that's the truth
Till I lost the human gist
For example, how much I should eat
So my stomach wouldn't be too full
My computer, he would know
He would track my cholesterol

Let me stroll along the streets
With the love that I adore
We'll dance on till the night repeats
And hold each other close and more

I had a house, 't was like a chateau
With plush carpets and walls so grand
My mother said: miraviglioso!
I thought: my prison and it's bland

For what appliance are you craving?
Here's my freezer and fridge for you!
Since I have no nore need for shaving,
have my electric shaver too!

Let me stroll along the streets
With the love that I adore
We'll dance on till the night repeats
And hold each other close and more

I'll sell my caravan today
And my bike I've fixed like new
Relearned to walk, hip hip hooray
I've cancelled Martha's Vineyard too.

What I'll soon get, it will come handy,
For my birthday, entirely free,
Two Sunday clogs.all nice and dandy
No more winter sports for me

Let me stroll along the streets
With the love that I adore
We'll dance on till the night repeats
And hold each other close and more

Now I raise pigs and I raise sheep
And in the dog house rabbits hop
I sow my lawn with turnips leek
For winter stew, no need to shop.

Let me stroll along the streets
With the love that I adore
We'll dance on till the night repeats
And hold each other close and more

Nice one! Got another one for you Loutfard. It's South-African, but as a Dutch it should be understandable.

From my commute playlist- Boston Peace of Mind
+1 for Peace of Mind. It came to mind immediately after I read the title of this thread.

Other songs:

Diagnostic of problems with the "lock-in" described in ERE book:
-Pink Floyd "Welcome to the Machine"
-The middle 3 songs on Pink Floyd's Animals

Songs about integrating the various sides of one's life into a cohesive whole:
-"How Long Can I Deny My Artistic Side?" and "I Wanna Laugh, I Wanna Sing" by Daniel Mackler

Hey hey, and +1 to Welcome to the machine.

I never understood that one when I was a tween listening to it in the 1980s. It became brutally clear over the next thirty years.

Same with Another Brick in The Wall. My over educated folks hated hearing the double negative in the chorous and complained this was exactly why I needed educating. At the time I just hated school. Then I stumbled across some kind of music video for the song watching uniformed school children marching down conveyor belts into meat grinders. It became clear what the Pink Floyd songs are about.

Money is a good one too. There’s always these lively unintelligible cocktail party conversations in the background with people cheerfully talking about business dealings. Like the elevator ride in Welcome to the
Machine. Or the ending party in Money.

Roger Waters despite being a loud mouth guy had some vision back then. I don’t share all his opinions but he was spot on about work and school.
