Largest one day trade?

Post by PhoneticNachos »

Just curious what is everyone's largest one day trade?

My best was a run from a volatility spike in EUR/AUD in 2019, I made $12k in about 15 minutes from a 50:1 leveraged position of $18k.

That was the year I also made 71 positive trades in a row, and grew a position from $500 into $8k.

I know a guy who is an old school tech bro, who has like 10k shares of NVDA, and he is up or down most days over $500k.

He has about $13 million in NVDA stock alone.

I don't know largest one day trade, but I do remember the first time I realized you can make capital M money in the stock market in one day, relatively speaking of course. Living with a significant daily increase in a holding (NVDA) is scary fun. I cannot imagine ever adding the idea of trading on top of it. Good/bad for those who do it.

I don't know if this counts as 1 day, but I have purchased a rare book for $1 and listed it for sale for $1500 the same day and sold it for that price within a few days. The stock market is relatively too efficient to expect similar results.

I don't have any one day trades but I did make a lot of money in 2021 selling weekly puts on AMD and PLTR and buying them back before close. 2021 was such an incredible run...I realized $108,559.67 in gains that year doing options trades. I was never able to replicate that success again - actually I ended up taking $15k loss in 2022. Recovered in 2023/ early 2024 with less risky strategies. Then stopped trading options altogether a few months ago.

In hindsight, I'd be much further ahead financially if I just held onto my AMD shares and never traded in and out with options.

This one time in 5th grade I traded some expired and stale crackers for a fresh Yodel.

My gut was telling me something during that period but I didn't have a term for it yet - "melt up." I feel that way with NVDA now but am fighting those feelings.

Bought 12 S&P futures the instant an economic number came out and sold them two or three minutes later 20 handles higher.

One handle (index point) on the futures was $250, so that's 250 * 12 * 20 = $60k in a few minutes.

That was back in the year 2000, at my job.
