Incassaforte encore AMA interview

Post by jacob »

Okay, we've talked about doing a second show and I figured an AMA (ask me anything) edition might be fun. We'll crowdsource the questions here and pick the good ones.
(Just because you can ask anything doesn't mean that everything will be answered.)

I have a preference for quirky questions.
Please no "agony-aunt" type questions. Not looking to dish out advice.

The goal of this thread is to compile a long list and pick from that. Feel free to ask several questions.

1) It's 2021, the world is in the state it's currently in. JLF + Wife suddenly find themselves without their house or possessions which tie them to current geographical location. If you could put down roots again anywhere in the world, where would it be?

2) You could share a meal/walk/evening with anyone on the planet, dead or alive......who and why?

3) What career would you pursue if you woke up tomorrow as your younger self before you went into Physics?

BTW, I think you can ask @Seppia questions too? Both of us being able to answer would probably make for a more interesting back and forth.

Roman legion or Germanic tribe?

We often focus on lowering spending, not just as a way to lower one's WR, but also as a proxy for advancing your environmental agenda -- consuming less. Are there cases where you feel spending more money is more ethical wrt to the environment? Possible example, organic vs conventional produce.

Edit: Sorry I didn't read the original comment close enough haha. Not sure if this counts as an advice question :P.

Let’s be realistic here, nobody cares about what I think :)
I’d say pick questions for Jacob and sometimes you’ll be forced to hear my answer/thoughts as well

What does your dream bicycle look like?
What's your favourite pleistocene megafauna?
What dish of yours is most likely to make @Seppia cry?
Have you started turning all your dishware from wood yet?
Given 20 seconds and a sticky note, who can draw the best cat?

Excellent. I have some questions for both of you:
  • What is your favorite dish you can make (and do you have a recipe?)
  • Would you rather fight 1 horse-sized duck or 100 duck-size horses?
  • What is something you want to achieve this year?
  • How did you meet your partner?
  • What is the quality your partner likes the most about you?
  • What is the quality you like the most about your partner?
  • What is your secret to a good marriage?
  • What DND class would you like to play?
  • Would you rather be Gimli or Legolas? Picard or Riker?
  • What is your favorite (board)game?
  • What is a skill you would still like to learn?
  • What surprising activity is in your web of goals?
  • Do you break your spaghetti before putting it in the pan to boil it?
  • Who would win in a fight, Batman or Spiderman?
  • How often do you speak Danish?
  • Should Pluto be a planet?
  • Try to explain your thesis topic to the other person in 2 minutes
  • What would you say you do here?
  • NASA just confirmed aliens exist! Are you excited or anxious?

I believe you two are about the same age. Imagine eighty-year-old Jacob and eighty-year-old Seppia meet again.

Assume the world turns out as you each hope it will. What does that look like?

I'm also curious how you and your wife met, I always love relationship origin stories. Also totally understand if that's not an interesting question. Here's my 'real' question; what do you think of this recent (maybe it's been going on longer?) trend of turning to indigenous people for ideas about how to live/survive the climate change/peak oil future?

Do you have any interest in fermentation?

While I'm anxiously waiting for the next episode of America's Next Renaissance Man to drop, I want to float an idea here!

I really liked the interview Seppia had with Jacob, since it went beyond the simple intro ERE style and it was a fun well flowing conversation. I thought that I would also enjoy listening to other forum members talk about their ERE journey. Kind of a casual, incrowd podcast that touches on various aspects of an ERE life people lead.

The concept could be fleshed out more, but I just wanted to put out some feelers to see if others would also be interested in something like this.

In case, I can provide the platform.
I have enough space for one episode / month.

That is a good idea.

I really want an anonymous person to do an interview using a voice disguiser app and their forum name only.

- You've made a lot of effort to improve ~'the world'. What are your thoughts relating to whether individuals have a responsibility to 'improve [xyz long-term thing like "the world", "humanity" etc], vs. them focusing on living a good life personally (without causing damage, but also not 'helping')

- What will you have done with your wealth then you die?

- How do you feel about your impact on 'the world' (vs. what you hoped to achieve), if you could retroactively adjust your level of effort and commitment, would you rather you had done more? Less?

  • If you had to distill ERE into a simple phrase that encapsulates it's true essence, what would that phrase be? Example: "Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise".
  • What DIY project are you most proud of at the moment?
  • What happened to the mammoth drill press?
  • What activity do you find to be the most stress relieving?
  • What is your favorite form of entertainment at the moment?
  • What is the most whimsical thing you recall doing that would seem very un-Jacob like to those who may not really know you?
