Been digging/discovering chichas (latin psychedelia) and similar this past year. Otherwise some local bands in genres I like.

Ded - Anti-Everything

Strong rage. The breakdown at 2:00 has a slinky Jerry Was A Racecar Driver vibe.

Infected Mushroom, Animal Collective, and Tycho are my my top three right now. Fast and chaotic.

Though in general I try to create an atmosphere that is appropriate for the thought patterns I wish to use.

I enjoy a broad range of music. My own musical endeavors have been focused primarily on the blues of late. Listening, I can go straight from a Brandenberg Concerto to Rush to Blind Willie Johnson without any feeling of discontinuity. I no longer pay disproportionate attention to new music--it's really just a small incremental addition to long rivers of great stuff.

I love the Boy's Latin music video! I like the Glass Animals stuff. Not sure about Sturgill, but maybe some day.

I tend to like either long, meditative stretches of music built out of simple repetitive blocks, or atmospheric, mystical pieces that invoke the afterlife or the divine.

Ambient:
- Hiroshi Yoshimura

Electronic:
- Odesza
- Tycho
- O.Z.O.R.A.

Symphonic/Orchestral:
- Anton Bruckner
- Alexander Scriabin
- Lili Boulanger
- Gyorgi Ligeti
- Torū Takemitsu
- John Luther Adams

I have been listening to Space Synth, which is sort of techno disco that came out of eastern Europe. It may be an extinct genre at this point. Much of the best music comes on Christmas compilation albums for some odd reason.

I was blessed with a simple taste for music. Favourites of mine are Metallica's "Wherever I may roam (https://youtu.be/S5TnPjOd_To) Don't tread on me" (
https://youtu.be/CZv_lvvIVoI) and Old Frederick's "Hohenfriedberger" (https://youtu.be/szgEskSRitQ).

Sturgill Simpson is a new one for me but one of the linked songs has a message that might resonate with some here:

"I done Syria, Afghanistan,Iraq and Iran
North Korea, tell me where does it end
Well the bodies keep piling up with everyday
How many more of them they're gonna send
Well they sent their sons and daughters off to die
for some war to control the heroin
Well, son I hope you don't grow up
Believin' that you've got to be a puppet to be a man

Well they cut off your hair and put a badge on your arm
Strip you off your identity
Tell you to keep your mouth shut boy and get in the line
Meet your maker overseas
Wearin' that Kim Jong-il hat while your grandma is selling pills stat
Meanwhile I'm wearing 'can't pay my fucking bills' hat

Nobody is lookin' up to care about a drone
All too busy lookin' down at our phone
Our ego's begging for a food like a dog from our feed
Refresing obsessively until iur eyes start to bleed
They serve up distractions and we eat them with fries
Until the bombs fall out of our fucking skies

Turn off the TV
Turn off the news
Nothin' to see here
They're serving the blues

Bullshit on my TV
Bullshit on my radio
The Hollywood telling me how to be me
The bullshit's got to go"

I don't listen that much to music anymore. But I enjoy music that transports you into transcendence. Like old-school goa trance does.

Classic favorites

@sky We seem to share identical taste.

I grew up without a "stereo-system" as they were called back in the 1980s, so my formative music aesthetics were based on whatever came out of the Commodore64 (now called [SID] chip music) and the Amiga. Most of the synthesizer music of that era (Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, ...) seemed more experimental than musical for the most part with the exception of "space synth" or the related "space disco" or "italo space" and Koto (Japan). You can find a lot of the Amiga stuff on youtube sorted/aggregated by composer.

It seems to have come back with a vengeance as "synthwave" (you'll find plenty on youtube) and various related incarnations. My favorites are the "Lost Years" albums. Also check out Ronald Jenkees (especially some of his earlier stuff)---he seems to be transitioning into more mellow/ambient stuff whereas his earlier stuff was more punchy/harder which I prefer.

Fred Eaglesmith. Love his lyrics. Also The Mountain Goats for the same reason. Great lyrics both.

For ambient/chillout I love Kodomo. Seriously, check out his album Still Life here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIWZZDIfbEM) if you like musical journeys.

When programming, or when I want to get into the flow, I prefer minimal trance or psytrance. The constant booming beat gets me in the zone. Example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_TiCS9 ... be&t=22m0s

For A E S T H E T I C music, check out vaporwave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hJKhiew2O0

In general, my musical preferences waxes and wanes with whatever the spotify weekly recommendations seems to be.
