NOW OPEN WORLDWIDE My Christmas gift to the ERE community
NOW OPEN WORLDWIDE My Christmas gift to the ERE community
I have been very moved by a recent super kind post by Jason in the "best of 2017" thread.
It is the Nth confirmation that ERE people are different than regular people in a (to me) very important way.
There is a very unique combination of
1- giving knowledge to others without expecting anything in return
2- being very thankful for any minimal contribution others make
That cannot be found anywhere else.
Giving here is usually not intended in the material sense, but more in the "teaching someone how to fish > giving someone a fish" sense
I would imagine this attitude starts from Jacob, as the ERE book, and the blog before it, is all about learning and sharing knowledge.
Well, since I am a much simpler person compared to Jacob and the majority of the very smart human beings on this board, I will break with this tradition of giving knowledge, and share a very material Christmas gift with the forum.
If you have more than 100 posts on this board, pick a number between 1 and 99.
I will draw a number on December 30th, the winner will get a case of the best Italian pasta on the market
EDIT
If some among you are holding back because of privacy concerns (ie you don't want to share your address with strangers on the internet, especially if they are based in shady countries like Italy), don't.
I'll direct you on where to buy this pasta brand, you'll send me a picture of your receipt clearly showing that you bought X bags of this pasta, and I'll PayPal you the money.
If you live in a place where this pasta is absurdly expensive (you live on an oil rig, in some remote island northeast of NZ, etc), we will figure out an alternative Italian product.
THIS OPENS UP THE COMPETITION TO NON AMERICANS ALSO

Re: My Christmas gift to the ERE community
I choose 120, because that's approximately the number of boxes we already have of this pasta! So very glad to hear that you hold it in high esteem, Seppia!

Haha, oh my. Seppia, thanks for your generosity even if I may not be the recipient.
I choose 73.

This is lovely. 37
Although digging out the old PayPal account might take time. Hah!
Edit: If I win I promise to cook it as you have previously instructed. Have previously been accused of pasta heresy.

As for your sentiment on the community:
I agree and would like to thank everyone contributing daily in a very open and helpful manner!
As for the number:
The number we are looking for is clearly 77
As for the gift:
You are based in Italy, correct?
If I turn out to win, I would lean towards letting you gift the pasta case to someone in need in your local community.

Without option to choose 666, I choose 13.
Another pasta semi-heretic,

Re: NOW OPEN WORLDWIDE My Christmas gift to the ERE community
With a description like that it has to be good. Our history started with this pasta: protagonist of the Italian cuisine, queen of your table. From spaghetti to lasagne.
I don't need a pasta subsidy for 2018, but this kind of thing is more fun when more people participate, so after perusing the De Cecco catalog, I choose 12 because it corresponds to spaghetti. Although I should probably broaden my horizons and try some other pastas. Thanks Seppia for the pasta recommendation and for teaching us how to cook it. That in itself is already a wonderful gift!
To make things easier for subsequent participants I have compiled a list of already-selected numbers. Use this to choose a unique number (unless you prefer to split your winnings).
3 (daylen)
4 (BRUTE)
12 (Fish)
13 (Dunkelheit)
20 (saving-10-years)
28 (James_0011)
37 (Crazylemon)
41 (sky)
45 (OTCW)
48 (ffj)
66 (theanimal)
73 (Solvent)
77 (fips)
98 (Dream of Freedom)
120 (halfmoon)
