. Not enough to dedicate to a journal, but wanted to share past/present/future.
Year end / Age / SWR / Comments
2005: 21 - ∞% SWR - Career start
2008: 24 - 100% SWR - Moved to a large company, with accelerated income (yay)... but bought a house (boo). Thought was in terms of '12 months of expenses in emergency fund' i.e. Current Ratio=1.
2013: 29 - 120% SWR - Moved to a larger house (boo). Kept old house (yay). Living expenses remain broadly similar to that of studentdom (yay).
2014: 30 - 49% SWR - Started thinking in terms of 'rental properties until retirement'.
2015: 31 - 18% SWR - Read Rich Dad Poor Dad, switched gears. Bought two properties.
2016: 32 - 14% SWR - Read ERE in Nov, installed jet engine. 6 months away from hitting 12%; Initial goal as meets P2P lending (11-13%) and specialist rental property income (11-15%).
2017 Q1: 33 - 11% SWR - Hit the initial goal of 11% SWR (50% actively managed direct property portfolio, 50% passive FTSE/similar).
2017 June: 33 - <10% SWR - Single figures!
2017 EOY: 34 - 8.7% SWR - Aiming for a FIRE-ish in 2018-2019
2018 EOY: 35 - 7.2% SWR - Baby arriving Jan 2019, so taking 2019 off to focus on family (and gather data as "test FIRE").
2019 EOY: 36 - 7.1% SWR - Took most of the year off
2020 midyear:. 37 - 4.8% SWR - Paid lump off mortgage, and refined baby outgoing costs
2021 Feb: 37 - 3.9% SWR
Projected:
2021: 4% SWR - From continued investing, not including further expense reduction. Continue to build passive position, and eventually sell off some/all the property portfolio.
2024: 3% SWR
The question is - At what point do I quit work and "do something else"?
