Resources and recommend watching
Re: Resources and recommend watching
brute quit watching after the rat-race episode, so he hasn't seen episode 3. from the wiki page, it sounds as fucked up as the first one, if not more.

Watched Poverty, Inc. last night. It touches on a lot of the topics we talked about in both of the charity threads. Very highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed most of both seasons. Is s1e1 really that bad in light of this?Ego wrote:Hah! I told you to skip episode 1. But now that you watched it and talked about it here, how many more people are going to watch it, an episode about our transfixing fascination with the spectacularly grotesque? Season 1 Episode 3 was incredible IMO.

Hah! That puts it in a whole different context. I didn't put 2 and 2 together.skintstudent wrote: I thoroughly enjoyed most of both seasons. Is s1e1 really that bad in light of this?

The Permaculture Manager introduced me to the Black Mirror, but skipped over the first episode. So, I watched it with my sister, and she was like "Why did you think I would like this series?"
I would like to recommend "The Detectorists." It is a British sitcom about the lives of the members of a Metal Detecting Club. Next best thing to a sitcom about the lives of the member of a Dumpster Diving Club. Actually, it might be even worse. Some of the only-moderately-frugal men I have dated have tolerated or even participated in my dumpster diving activities, but I have been informed by more than one gentleman while rummaging through a pawn shop, that I "don't really want" a metal detector instead of some jewelry. This leads me to believe that it must be the least sexy hobby of all. Like, if you were on a second date with somebody, it would be a near thing whether you would rather hear that they once did S1E1 of Black Mirror type activities or they belonged to a Metal Detecting Club.

We discovered this recently, and it is one of my favorite shows (at least Season 1, which is all I've seen). Quirky and enjoyable.7Wannabe5 wrote:I would like to recommend "The Detectorists." It is a British sitcom about the lives of the members of a Metal Detecting Club.

Alain de Botton's 'Status Anxiety' https://youtu.be/t1MqJPHxy6g
I'm sure a lot of you have seen it, but I don't think it's listed here.

For an eclectic mix of gardening / DIY home repair / cooking ... I really enjoy http://www.gardenfork.tv/
YouTube channel also here
Just a great attitude in the presentation, and often hilarious when small mistakes are made.

kind of hilarious how a British multi millionaire tells American poor/working poor to accept their placejennypenny wrote:Alain de Botton's 'Status Anxiety' https://youtu.be/t1MqJPHxy6g

Re: Resources and recommend watching
I liked the little forge. I think I would just find some scrap steel to melt down though. Much better return for your effort.
Re: Resources and recommend watching
yea, forced air induction forge.. what the actual fuck. this guy is leaving the stone age ON HIS OWN. the scene of him practicing the slingshot is also great.
seems like his whole point is not to use anything he didn't make himself. just imagine how much easier the whole wood cutting would be if he used a pocket knife instead of a sharp stone.

Yeah, this guy is my idol.
Re: Resources and recommend watching
no homo, but brute likes the way he moves. seems like he's always using his whole body for every movement. his center of gravity follows his hands, when he's hammering in those stones, he's using his bodyweight. this is how humans should move.
