What did I do yesterday?
  • 0,5h-write post
  • 1,0h-learn database stuff & publish my notes
  • 0,5h-workout
  • 1,0h-watch marketing playlist
  • 4,0h-give workshop

  • full day of fasting: many eating temptations at the workshop, I was too weak. Except for one day (passed BBQ some weeks ago), all full days of fasting so far have been at home, in isolation. I have to train my eating habits in a more tempting environment, not only in isolation. (winning through system vs. through disciplined behaviour)

What do I plan to do today? 3-5 MITs => ~6,0h
  • 1,0h-learn database stuff & publish my notes
  • 0,5h-write post
  • 0,5h-read book
  • 0,5h-workout
  • 0,1h-cardio
  • 0,5h-watch marketing playlist
  • 4,0h-give workshop

What is blocking me from achieving my goals?
  • nothing

Notes
  • nothing

Subject: Sprint Review: Week 35, 19/08/26.-01.

Life Goals Check

I will save up my 1x annual expenses:
- Past milestone: I will publish one article every day with at least 1000 characters. Success
I wrote & published one article every day. In the last few days it has been difficult to find a suitable topic, but I have made it. I'll keep it that way.
- Next milestone: I will publish one article every day with at least 1000 characters.

I will be more proactive and on time:
- Past milestone: Not being on time 3 times/week. Failed
I am unhappy & feeling insecure with my metrics, because I don't know how to measure days, where I postpone one appointment, that itself postpones another appointment. Or how I should evaluate switching two appointments.
In the end, the purpose of this goal is to reflect how much I keep to my own words/appointment etc.
Now that I've written this text, it becomes clear to me that I should count everything.

Therefore I will change my approach:
- I have a recurring schedule with all my appointments
- every evening I will adjust tomorrow's appointments (e.g. if I wouldn't get enough sleep), thereby the schedule is set in stone
- every postponed appointment counts

- Next milestone: Not being on time 10 times/week.

I will communicate more honestly, directly and explicitly:
- Past milestone: Not talking/writing honestly, directly and explicitly 3 times/week. Passed
I often forget to count it when it happens. I will try to be more aware of it.

- Next milestone: Not talking/writing honestly, directly and explicitly 3 times/week.

I will weigh 85kg:
- Past milestone: I'll weigh 89,5kg on a 7day average. I plan for 3 Full Days of Fasting. Failed/Passed
89,7kg on a 7day average today. I had 3 Full days of Fasting.
I've been watching more closely how my body reacts & I've found out, that I consumed a lot of salt at my fasting days (5g due drinking salt water), what led to water retention.

Here you can see a small trend analysis of my weight loss.
After creating this thread, my weight loss doubled, I think this is due social pressure, because I don't want to fail in public.

Image

- Next milestone: I'll weigh 88,9kg on a 7day average. I plan for 3 Full Days of Fasting. I will only have two social events this week, therefore I will have enough time to move a lot.

---

What worked well?
- Fasting & getting things done.

What could be improved?
- I get things done, but only after postponing them. Too often, I need the feeling of being motivated.

I have recognized the following daily behaviours:
- I hate days, where I don't have time to play video games. BUT: most of the time I don't play. I think it's only about the freedom to have "fun". Therefore I will schedule 30min of playtime & I will see how it goes. I think I will find out, if it's about having fun or about scheduling
- Whenever I don't schedule things, I forget them.
- Starting is my biggest roadblock

- On the days after fasting I procrastinate a lot. I think this is due my breakfast, which I use to watch some YouTube, what leads to being tired & ultimatly to slacking off. I will move my breakfast to later in the day.

Sprint Review: Week 36, 19/09/02.-08.

Life Goals Check

I will save up my 1x annual expenses:
- Past milestone:
I will publish one article every day with at least 1000 characters. Failed - 6/7

Didn't publish every day, only 6/7. But I am really happy with this habit.
It's a great method to test & deepen my knowledge: First, I learn new stuff, then I write an article about it.
I have to think about my learnings & write it in an understandable way.

- Next milestone:
I will publish one article every day with at least 1000 characters.

---

I will weigh 85kg:
- Past milestone:
I'll weigh 88,9kg on a 7day average. Failed
I plan for 3 Full Days of Fasting. Passed

89,3kg on a 7day average today. I had 3 Full days of Fasting.
As long as I make progress and continue to practice my habits, everything is fine.
It's done when it's done.

- Next milestone:
I'll weigh 88,5kg on a 7day average.
I plan for 3 Full Days of Fasting.

---

I will be more proactive and on time:
- Past milestone:
Not being on time 10 times/week. Failed

I am struggling with this, because I always forget to track it.
From now on, I will use an alarm clock to remind myself when my appointments will begin.

I will communicate more honestly, directly and explicitly:
- Past milestone: Not talking/writing honestly, directly and explicitly 3 times/week. Passed
I've had some great experiences & insights.
Some people seem to be intimidated getting asked direct questions.
Some people seem to be very happy getting asked direct questions.
Because it's about learning to ask direct questions, I'm happy with it.
I think I have to learn to adjust my timing, but I think I make great progress.

From now on I'll combine these two goals.
8 weeks are over and I think I don't have to separate them anymore,
because they have a similar goal.

=> I will execute more proactively & I will communicate more directly & explicitly:
- Past milestone:

- Next milestone:
Max. 10 times/week not executing when the alarm starts / I want to ask/say something.

---

What worked well?
- Fasting & talking more directly

What could be improved?
- not postponing tasks

In between, I had a short break of 5 hours.
It was like a self fulfilling prophecy: I ate in the morning, I was emotionally satisfied and finally I thought I don't have to do a lot of stuff.
Now I've understood the mental pattern a little bit better and that's a step in the right direction to finally solve it.

Great day: 5hrs of real software development stuff, zero distraction, no smartphone, email as usual. 1hr working out, 1hr marching.
I am really happy & proud about this achievement.
The workflow of: 1hr sitting at the desktop + 30m walking/exercising is really great.

Btw since using this format, I forgot to write down "full day of fasting".
Did them every second day as usual. The mental withdrawal symptoms have decreased enormously.
I think my brain learned to connect my weight loss progress & the fasting.
The fasting days without the food coma are really great for my overall energy levels.

I did it.

- Next milestone:
I will publish one article every day with at least 1000 characters.

I will weigh 85kg:
- Past milestone:
I'll weigh 88,5kg on a 7day average. Passed
I plan for 3 Full Days of Fasting. Passed

88,4kg on a 7day average today. I had 4 Full days of Fasting.

I learned to eat better at the days after the fasting days.
In the evening of a fasting day I imagine that tomorrow I will eat super delicious foods,
but the next day the fantasy is gone and I don't overeat anymore.

- Next milestone:
I'll weigh 87,5kg on a 7day average.
I plan for 3 Full Days of Fasting.

I will execute more proactively & I will communicate more directly & explicitly:
- Past milestone:
Max. 10 times/week not executing when the alarm starts / I want to ask/say something. Passed

The alarm clock approach works.
I forgot to use it sometimes, but it worked better than the weeks before without alarm clock.

Currently, I have two sticking points:
- the day after a fasting day: after I eat, I'm too tired & lazy to start
- fasting day: after block 1, my will power seems to be "empty", because I worked for 3-4hrs & did not eat
So to summarize: I'm struggling to start.

- Next milestone:
Max. 7 times/week not executing when the alarm starts / I want to ask/say something.

What worked well?
- fasting
- keeping most of the promises I make to myself

What could be improved?
- my starting habit
