I think it'd be cool to have the choice of an e-bike or manual bike. I've been doing some research on e-bike conversions. It looks promising! With one product, all one needs to do is switch out the bike's wheel with an e-wheel. Plug into the e-wheel to the wall to re-charge.
This means places within 20-30 mi become much easier to do!
Can I make my folding bike electric and back again?

I'm really tempted by e-bikes as well. I had a chance to ride one in September, it was amazing.
Switching back and forth would be a hassle. You'd have to either be taking apart the pedals or the rear wheel all the time depending on which motor setup you went with. Why not just leave the motor off when you want to pedal without assisted power?

I had a conversion on an existing bike, it really didn't work out very well and I upgraded to a bike with an integrated system a couple of months ago. I'm dubious that you can get anything decent that could be swapped out in half an hour.
