Free Solo Climber Frugal Living

Post by pooablo »

This guy (Alex Honnold) lives off less than $1,000 a month and out of his van so he can climb all the time (sometimes without rope!)

I can't wait to stop working so I can climb all the time (with rope of course!)

Alex is amazing...

There are so many people in the outdoor community who live this type of lifestyle. Forgoing bills, gadgets, homes, cars etc. for the freedom of life on the rock, water, trail or slopes. Seems very much like semi-ERE to me. I plan to be doing the same thing very soon!

Here is a cool, more recent video of a free solo he did in Mexico. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Phl82D57P58
Gives me the chills!

This is definitely something that I would really like to do for a period of time (the living out of a car and climbing all the time part, not the free soloing part hah). I'm pretty obsessed with climbing.

That was good. I wonder how he got to that level of control. I don't think it was solely experience because as the article states, other free soloists didn't have it (control). Hmm...

He definitely has his emotions under high degree of control.

Joe Rogan interviewed him, which is how I learned about him, they had a neat talk:
