Dive into something new every year

I heard this recently in a FIRE meetup group. Try something new every year, dive deep into a hobby. Fishing, sailing, playing the clarinet or whatever it is.
The hobby doesn't have to last forever. By the time you reach retirement you'll have had so many interests that you can pick them up again when you feel like it and never get bored. That or you'll be so used to trying new things that you'll see opportunities everywhere.

I'm still a long way to FIRE but I try out a lot of things, not just as fleeting interest but as long term hobbies. On the other hand my parents retired 5 years ago and they never had hobbies. Their time is filled up with "living the good life" - interests like wine tasting and traveling. They can afford it but I can't help feeling like they are spending money on what other people say is good.

My problem is just that I find most things boring. What have you tried out so far?
