Cheap restaurants in Las Vegas

Post by Frugalchicos »

Team,

I didn't know where to post this question. But anyone has any suggestion for cheap restaurants in Las Vegas?

We are definitely packing some fruit with me to eat it at the swimming pool. But I would like to go out once or twice without breaking the bank. The whole purpose of going to Vegas is to see the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon (we had free tickets and are staying 3 nights for $200)

Thanks in advance!

Chico

I haven't been in decades, but the best Thai food in Vegas was, and probably still is, Lotus of Siam. Way off the strip, never advertised to tourists, and a favorite of locals.

Vegas can be fun and cheap, but watch yourself. They downplay the crime, but there is always someone willing to do whatever, for ten bucks, "so they can win it all back." And since it's Vegas, there are lots of drunken tourists to tempt such people. Don't blend in with that crowd after dark.

Have fun, and I recommend the chicken in mint leaves.

plenty of places that won't break the bank even on the strip.

The core strip is an oligopoly so you won't find any bargains there. Look for restaurants catering more to locals than tourists.

+1 to Lotus of Siam
many options in Chinatown and the old downtown
Peppermill is not too bad considering the portion sizes
I've had recommendations for Viva Las Arepas, Tacos El Gordo, and Vickie's Diner, but haven't been

Also there are ordinary grocery stores and a Costco off strip, so you can buy groceries and assemble something yourself. Last time we were there we made a breakfast of store-bought muffins and a meat-and-cheese tray.

Thanks guys!!

I lived in Vegas for 3 months, but I only know few places in Summerlin (the northern suburb where we lived) and some restuarants on the strip, but I was invited for work.

Lotus of Siam is good, Chica and I tried it once.

@Seppia, thanks buddy, we might give La Cantina a try.

We are also looking at some Groupon deals...

Thank you all!!

Try going to Yelp and filtering for restaurants with only one $ symbol.

It isn't particularly cheap but on your way back from the Hoover Dam you can go to Fox Smokehouse BBQ in Boulder City. Don't be put off by the fact that it is in a strip mall.

The Hoover Dam itself is really interesting if you like engineering or history or just really huge stuff. The bridge next to it is also really impressive.

Everything on the Strip has gotten extremely expensive, especially over the last 10-15 years. Agree with going to a grocery store and off-strip restaurants.
You'll get the best value by going to a buffet. The ones in the local/off-strip casinos are in general much cheaper than on the Strip. I really liked the buffet at the Palms. There's free parking, you can get a $1 discount with the player's card, and if you go 30 minutes before lunch, you get the breakfast price but can have lunch. The quality and selection is really terrific. A buffet can substitute for 2 meals.

In & Out Burger is very close to, but not a part of, The Strip. So they have pretty standard prices for burgers and fries.

Otherwise stop by places outside Las Vegas on your way to see other sites. I recommend The Coffee Cup in Boulder City (on the way to Hoover Dam).
