I've been thinking that the V6 Chrysler 300 might be a new DIY champ. Longitudinal RWD layout, large engine bay, and generally brutalist engineering makes for easy repairs. The late 3.5, and 3.6, are both pretty solid with wide cheap parts availability. The Chrysler and Mercedes transmissions are solid too. Sold for many years with minimal changes, and parts interchange with the Charger and Challenger muscle cars, means parts and knowhow should survive for a long time. Older owner demographic tends to be easy on cars. Better fuel efficiency and stealth factor than a pickup or SUV.
