Microbiology 101 up to BSc curriculum

Post by jacob »

I'm interested in learning because this comprises a big hole in my understanding of the universe. If I can get a list of the text books/course names/curriculum for first year, second year, ... that'd be great.

I might be willing to lose my online course/learning virginity too but for now I'm just interested in a list of books I can read on the train.

A good place to start is Molecular Biology of the Cell: It is considered the gold-standard, and is free in a clunky way (you'll see). Maybe hunt for a syllabus that is based on this book and go to town?

I don't have a direct answer, but here's an algorithm for scraping a curriculum's reading list:

1) Find a respectable university with an online textbook store. Ex.: http://umichigan.bncollege.com
2) Google for the major requirements you care about. Ex.: https://www.lsa.umich.edu/students/acad ... crobiology
3) Go through the courses one by one and look up the required book.

Ex.:
Microbiology: BIOLOGY 207 = BROCK BIOLOGY OF MICROORGANISMS
Genetics: BIOLOGY 305 = INTRO.TO GENETIC ANALYSIS (LOOSELEAF) By GRIFFITHS
And so on.
