Are hand mixer attachment plugs universal?

Post by jacob »

According to google, many want to know this but few have an answer?!

DW broke one of the beaters on an ancient (20y+) Waring hand mixer. We need a replacement or a replacement set. Does any brand go with any other brand?

Add: Maybe those of you who have committed the sin of owning two or more different hand mixers could test whether the attachments are mutually compatible?

even if they don’t have both, i think breaking out cameras + calipers could suffice?

sorry i can’t contribute my own data on this, i only have a $15 chinese-made handheld model here.

I don't know if any brand goes with any other brand, but when staying with family members that have multiple sets/brands of this stuff, I've mixed and matched the beaters without even thinking about it. They clicked in place and spun without issue.

Not always. I had a similar issue with an old Black and Decker hand mixer that was missing both beaters (lost in a move). I looked for replacement parts online but found out that they had been discontinued (I also contacted the company but they haven't been much help). Someone later bought me a pair of beaters as a gift knowing I was missing mine but unfortunately they weren't compatible with my model. I eventually found a KitchenAid hand mixer that they worked with so now I have a spare set (https://www.amazon.com/Accessories-Kitc ... B07PPLQPCN). Not sure if they would fit your Waring hand mixer (every company might have its own proprietary solution so you have to buy accessories from them?) but they're yours if you want to try them. Still not sure to do with the old hand mixer but I don't want to throw it away...

I'm more interested how you found somebody who had capacity to get convinced to own 1 set of given kitchen utensil  (I don't care about gender of person who states the question and the gender of person who anserws the question).

Nevertheless, my solutions to the problem:
- try to find old set on ebay/craigslist of given model
- scrap/buy on rummage sale other product and try to play on your own

Image

The mixer grips and seats the knob/ball at the end and the ears allows it to provide torque.

Diameter of shaft: ~5.5mm
Diameter of knob, widest part: ~4mm
From bottom of knob to shaft: 6mm
Diameter of ears: 9mm
Thickness of ears: 1mm
Distance from bottom of knob to bottom of ears: 28.5mm

Let the bad jokes begin :-P

@cheese - Thanks for the offer. Based on the measurements above, is it possible for me to file out the knob at the end?

@jacob I don't any have any calipers so these are just estimates.

Diameter of shaft: 5mm
Diameter of ears: 9mm
Thickness of ears: 1mm
Distance from bottom of knob to bottom of ears: 27mm

I wasn't able to figure out a quick/easy way to insert an image into the post but I've uploaded a picture of the beaters here:

Unfortunately, I think this measurement disqualifies them. But thanks for the offer.

We have these beaters and it's 28.2mm from the tip of the knob to the bottom of the ears.

Diameter of shaft: 5.7mm
Diameter of knob, widest part: 4.3mm
From bottom of knob to shaft: ~9.5mm to 5.7mm-width portion of shaft
Diameter of ears: 8.8mm
Thickness of ears: 1.5mm
Distance from bottom of knob to bottom of ears: 28.2mm
Distance from bottom of knob to collar: 40.0mm

@jacob Of course, no problem. Sorry to hear they won't work but best of luck! Reminds me of the time when every cell phone had a different kind of charger.

Curious to hear if you're eventually able to find a solution since I still have the same problem but without even the dimensions of the missing beaters. Ashamed to admit I eventually caved and bought a mixer since it is no fun whipping cream by hand...

just put your bowl and whisk in the freezer for 15 minutes before beating

jacques pépin used a copper bowl (not frozen)

edit: sorry, i confuse myself, pépin used copper for eggs, not sure about cream. but a frozen steel bowl works well for me for whipped cream. or worked—cuz i bought a mixer anyway 🤣 (but still use frozen bowl)
